My Nintendo is a loyalty program released by Nintendo in Japan on March 17, 2016 and on March 31, 2016 worldwide. It is the successor to the previous Nintendo loyalty program, Club Nintendo, where users can earn digital points in various ways to redeem them for prizes.
Points
There are two types of points users can receive with a My Nintendo account: Platinum and Gold. Both points are mutually exclusive to each others' rewards and cannot be exchanged nor combined.
Platinum Points
Platinum Points are the most common type of points that can be earned. They can be obtained in the following ways:
- Logging into the My Nintendo website for 30 Points a week
- Completing certain Nintendo Switch Online missions under the "Missions & Rewards" section
- Completing certain missions on the My Nintendo website such as participating in a microsite's item hunt or engaging in other Nintendo services
- Rewarded alongside purchasing/participating in certain promotions and tournaments
The amount of Platinum Points required for redeeming a reward depends on the reward. Wallpapers and other media for mobile and PC devices are usually free but can range from 10 to 80 points. The lowest for physical rewards is typically 300 points and can go up to 800 points; however, while the rewards are technically free, buyers still have to pay for shipping which costs $6.99 USD at the minimum. Platinum Points can also be used for game discounts typically costing a significantly larger amount than Gold Points, however amounts for Virtual Console discounts are typically a lot cheaper.
The Kirby series had two microsites where users could earn Platinum Points for free: the Kirby Star Allies and the Kirby and the Forgotten Land microsites. For the former site, players had to find four Friend Hearts throughout the site's various pages with each heart being a 25 point reward. Finding all four hearts would have granted a total of 100 points. For the latter site, users had to find all five real-world items Kirby could use Mouthful Mode on across the site's various pages as well. Finding all five items rewards the user with the Present Code: KIRBYMICROSITE, as well as 100 Platinum Points that could be redeemed on the My Nintendo missions website page. Entering this code at Waddle Dee-liveries in-game gave the player 150 Star Coins and an Attack Boost.

Gold Points
Gold Points can only be earned by making digital or physical purchases of Nintendo games. Points are calculated based on the amount paid for said purchases, excluding tax and discounts. For digital purchases made from the Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com, the amount of Gold Points that are rewarded are 5% of the purchase amount whereas Gold Points for physical purchases are only awarded at 1% of the Nintendo eShop price for the digital version of the game and must be claimed within one year of the game's original release date.
Gold Points can only be redeemed for game discounts, certain 3DS Themes, and downloadable starter guides; physical rewards cannot be redeemed.
My Nintendo News
On the My Nintendo website exists a link to the My Nintendo News page where it documents specific news articles dedicated to releases of certain rewards either in celebration of a new game or for limited time sweepstakes. Trivia
- Before North America released its regional Club Nintendo rewards program, it released a registration program that also used the name "My Nintendo." This program offered no real benefits when users signed up for it besides receiving occasional newsletters about upcoming DS and Wii games, participating in a few sweepstakes, and gaining access to downloadable wallpapers. Many small advertisements were packaged with many DS games including Kirby: Canvas Curse and Kirby Super Star Ultra encouraging users to register their games and sign up for the program.
- As Kirby Super Star Ultra was also released in North America a month before Club Nintendo in North America launched, its inserts afterwards included advertisements to join Club Nintendo replaced the My Nintendo ones. Due to this, copies of Kirby Super Star Ultra may have different inserts about a certain rewards program but never both.
- A special pink DS stylus could have been redeemed for My Nintendo users who registered Kirby: Canvas Curse on the Nintendo website in North America. Interestingly, this pen was given away for free in Japan as an extra in addition to a purchase of the game.[20]
