Kid Icarus
It is unknown who created mankind, but they exist in Angel Land. Palutena, the Goddess of Light, and Medusa, the Goddess of Darkness, watched over them. Palutena, with her light, allowed them to grow food from the earth and live in peace. For reasons unknown, Medusa grew to hate humanity, and brought upon suffering and terror onto them. Furious, Palutena cursed Medusa, turning her into a vile and vicious monster for her misdeeds, and banished her to the Underworld. It was this event that caused Medusa to plot her revenge upon Palutena and Angel Land.
Upon gathering the denizens of the Underworld and rallying her her army, Medusa waged war on Palutena, seeking to reclaim the Palace in the Sky to rule over Angel Land once again. With her powerful army of darkness, she was able to overwhelm Palutena and her forces and claim her once denounced throne. Letting monsters and evil creatures run amok upon Angel Land, the land of light was soon turned into a land of darkness. With nothing that could be done by mortal hands, humanity hid itself away in fear upon Medusa's reign.
Only through the deeds of the brave young angel Pit, who was personally chosen by Palutena to rescue her and stop the evil Medusa, was he able to return Angel Land back to a land of light again, saving humanity in the process.
