Summary
- Toshu and Inuyasha continue battling, Toshu's skin now almost completely covered in dragon scales, consumed by Dakki. Using Kaze no Kizu on Inuyasha, he steals the last of the demonic energy in Tessaiga. Thus, Tessaiga reverts to its rusty katana form permanently, just as Tōtōsai warned might happen. Toshu mocks the Hanyō that he's about to die, but Inuyasha stands up, planning on fighting with just the rusted Tessaiga. Sango and Miroku get ready to step in and fight, but Inuyasha tells them to stay back; he still wants to fight. Toshu says even if the demon blade Tessaiga is drained, Dakki can still drain the energy from Inuyasha himself. Toshu and Inuyasha cross blades again, the rusty katana Tessaiga slightly chipping Dakki, but Toshu just taunts Inuyasha that a useless blade cannot defeat Dakki.
- Suddenly, Toshu splits in two, falling to the ground dead. Everyone wonders what has happened, but Miroku hypothesizes that Dakki, fearing its own destruction, allowed Toshu to die so it would remain whole. Inuyasha calls Toshu arrogant and dumb for allowing himself to be killed by his own blade. Dakki then breaks, and all of Inuyasha and Tessaiga's demonic energy flows back into the sword. He then witnesses the new form for Tessaiga, the Dragon-Scaled Tessaiga. Inuyasha sheathes the sword and apologizes to it for pushing it so hard, thanking it for saving his life.
