Introduced in Portrait in Death (August 8-15th, 2059)

Introduction

Description
- Pretty-faced;[6] young and what Peabody would have called a cutie.[7]
- His mop of hair curled appealingly around his striking face.[9]
- He could pass for twenty-two or -three, Eve thought. Younger if he worked at it. Then his eyes opened, and she added another five years. The eyes knew too much for barely two decades.[9]
- ”Peabody would’ve called him a frosty-looker with his pretty face, curling black mop, dreamy eyes.”[10]
Personality
- He was personable and would “chat up” and/or flirt with a witness if it might help put them at ease; it was part of his technique.[11]

- According to Dallas, he was the best Ident artist in the city.[13]
- Yancy was Eve’s favored artist.[14]
- He worked on an image for Dallas in Remember When[15] and in Visions in Death where he worked on the image with one of Roarke’s image programs.[16]

- He also aged John Massey’s photo in Haunted in Death.[17]
- He worked with Carmine, a crime lab tech who was an expert on facial structure, in Bonded in Death to get an idea of what was under the mask in the security feed from the killer’s chauffeur disguise when he picked Giovanni Rossi up at the international shuttle station: “something about face shape, bone structure. Eyes, ears, and whatever.”[18]
- ”Eve considered him a genius as a police artist, and a damn solid cop.”[10]
Interesting Facts
- Yancy said that meditating for a few minutes cleared his head.[19]
- In January 2061 Yancy started dating Laurel Esty, who had been a witness in Brotherhood.[20] (She called him Vince,[20] which was the first mention of his given name.)
YANNI
- Yancy may have been promoted off-page, but he was called “Officer” in Portrait in Death (August 8-15th, 2059),[21] appeared as “Yancy” (still summer heading toward fall in Visions in Death),[22] and as “Detective” in Survivor in Death (October, 2059; three weeks after Visions).[23]
