Matthew York

Detective Chief Inspector York (played by Ian Puleston-Davies) is a character who appears in Series 3's episode "Law and Corruption". Matthew York is a police detective and is described as "the Met's blue-eyed boy", as he has a high arrest rate, that includes several high profile arrests.

He started out working for the Police in the Midlands and is credited with the first zero-tolerance policy in the UK, before moving to the Met Police two years before the episode. He is corrupt and is willing to plant evidence and blackmail criminals to reach his goals and to reach his goals.

History

At the start of the episode The Hustle gang are coming back to their flat after a con only to find DCI York and several Police officers wanting for them. He confiscates the money the gang made from their previous con and then pretends to find drugs in the flat and arrests the whole gang, taking them to the Police station. He'll drop the false charges against them if they agree to help him take down Adam Rice, whom the press has labelled The Ghost. He secretly releases the whole gang from their cells except Albert who will go down for the drug charges if they fail.
