Cefuroxime is an antibiotic related to cephalosporin. It is commonly used to treat gonorrhea and Lyme disease. It is commonly prescribed after cataract surgery in order to prevent complications. It is also one of the few drugs of its type that can cross the blood-brain barrier.
Although it has side effects common to antibiotics, such as upsetting the digestive tract and allergies, these are less common with cefuroxime than with most other antibiotics.
