COX-2 inhibitors are a class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. They work by inhibiting only one form of the COX enzyme. As such, they reduce inflammation almost as well as other more general COX inhibitors, but are less likely to cause gastritis as a side effect. However, they pose a higher risk of non-fatal heart attack and stroke.
