Isaac

Isaac

Isaac (1958 BC-1778 BC) was one of the three patriarchs of the Israelites. He was the son of Abraham and Sarah, with God blessing Sarah with a child despite her infertility. Isaac was circumcised when he was eight days old, and he was nearly sacrificed by his father at God's commandment, although an angel intervened and prevented Abraham from doing so. With the help of Abraham's steward Eliezer, Isaac found a wife in Rebecca, and she gave birth to twins, Esau and Jacob. Isaac favored Esau, while Rebecca favored Jacob. Isaac later made a pact with King Abimelech to dig wells from Gerar to Beersheba. When Isaac was old and blind, his son Jacob, posing as Esau, secured Isaac's blessing to acquire his inheritance, and Isaac died at the age of 180.
