Vex is a supporting protagonist in Tangled: The Series, being one of the main characters of the Vardaros arc. Once a no-nonsense girl whose only objectives were to survive in the wild city of Vardaros and gain money, due to her experiences with Princess Rapunzel and Captain Quaid, she became a law and order defender in Vardaros, Deputy Vex.
She was voiced by Britt Robertson, who also portrayed Casey Newton in Toomorowland.
Personality
Vex initially was careless, stubborn, selfish, only doing things to help others if she gained money, and also doing tasks to villains if the paid her. However, she recognized in Vardaros's former sheriff, Captain Quaid, an example of how good people can be, even in Vardaros, and, after making him give up his retiring along with Rapunzel, she became the deputy of Vardaros, determined to end the crime in the city, make people better people, but still retained her cynical characteristic traits, not being a fan of hugs or too much demonstrations of care, despite being truly grateful of what Rapunzel did in the city, and a admirer of Quaid's hope bringer nature.
Biography
Vex was born and raised in the decaying city of Varadaros, that was under the command of the evil Baron, and she grew up not believing in people and only doing things to anyone if she was paid. It's unknown what happened to Vex's family, but they most likely abandoned her. When Princess Rapunzel and her caravan went to Vardaros, Vex received them with a badcoming, just like anyone else in the city. She then lured Flynn Rider, Hook Foot and Lance Strongbow to an alley where they would be kidnapped by the Baron's goons. She did that because a man named Anthony the Weasel gave her a few pieces of gold. The Baron wanted Eugene (Flynn Rider) to marry his daughter, Stalyan, and moments before the wedding, Rapunzel, Cassandra and Hook Foot tried to invade the wedding, and gave Vex some money to help them break in.
After the Baron's defeat, Rapunzel stated she'd not let Varados in that precarious state, and tried to make the old sheriff of the twon, Quaid, back in action, with Vex's help. Vex, during the training of Quaid, truly believed he could be the great man who made the difference she heard about, but, when Quaid gave up again due to discovering Rpunzel fooled him to make him more confident, Vex, who was assigned as deputy of Vardaros, went with Raounzel's friends to fight Anthony Weasel, who hired a man known as the Collector to defeat Quaid, and was surprised said man wasn't there. The Collector knocked Rapunzel off, grappled all of her friends, and, when walking in Vex direction, Quaid appeared, and threw a pot of pheromonies from his bee farm to her, who threw it at the collector, and then, Quaid's bees attacked the Collector, entering his armor, and scaring him off, leaving the easy task of taking Weasel down to Quaid and Vex, who did it with pleasure. Afterthat point, Vardaros's was free from crime lords, and received a sheriff and a deputy to protect it.
In her last appearence, she critcized Rapunzel's idea of bringing the traditional Corona festivity, the Goodwill Festival to Vardaros, as the people there were very different from Corona, and if she went on with the plan, she could at least leave the task of doing the events of the festival with Cassandra, as she was "edgier", just like the people in Vardaros. She and Quaid, during the festival, tried to stop a ferocious sneezeweasel, a dangerous animal that Lance and Hook Foot brought to the festival mistakenly, as they though it was a gopher. The creature pushed Quaid into a cliff, but he grabbed a rope Vex was holding. She almost couldn't hand it anymore, when Eugene appeared and helped her, while Cassandra and Rapunzel took down the Sneezeweasel. Later, more people from Vardaros would hel Vex pull Quaid out of the cliff. She thanked Rapunzel for everything as she was leaving the town, and, despite not letting the princess hug her, as she was not such a fan of hugs, she opened a sincere smile and waved as Rapunzel and her friends said goodbye to Vardaros.
Trivia
- As Vex was born while the city was under Baron's control, which means Quaid had already retired, and considering Vex is a teenager, this means Quaid has been out of action for more than ten years, so it makes sense that she grew up stubborn and selfish, having no one to serve as a good example to her.
