~ The Tick |
The Tick is the titular protagonist of the comic book, cartoon, and live action series of the same name. He is a parody of super heroes created by Ben Edlund.
Overview
Nothing is known about the Tick's origins or who he was before he became a hero. Not even the Tick himself remembers, though he has always been a superhero as far as he is concerned. In the comics, the Tick was apparently an escaping mental patient, but whatever past he left behind has not yet caught up with him since arriving in The City.
Ever since coming to The City, the Tick has become a symbol of righteousness among the citizens and is considered the greatest hero among the City's burgeoning hero community. He lives with his sidekick Arthur in a small apartment, sleeping on the couch and paying no rent. He spends most of his time patrolling the City via the rooftops, causing considerable damage to the buildings he leaps on.
Personality
The Tick is brave, adventurous and very excitable. He considers himself a paragon of all things good and brazenly praises the good qualities of others when they display them. He also has a tendency to make long-winded monologues about good and evil and the lessons learned from his adventures, which often make no sense.
Unfortunately, the Tick is also insane and pretty stupid. He doesn't always pay attention to important details and usually (nay, always) leaps into action without thinking things through.
Powers and abilities
The Tick possesses incredible strength, capable of lifting impossibly heavy loads and pummeling even the strongest villains. He is also nigh-invulnerable and has survived many situations guaranteed to kill an average human being. It is quite possible that the Tick is completely invulnerable yet he always states that he is "nigh-invulnerable". It could be that the Tick is merely being modest(?) or, more likely, he doesn't know what the word "nigh" means.
Weaknesses
The Tick's stupidity and childlike wanderlust are perhaps his greatest failings as he has been tricked many times by various evil-doers. He also has an irrational fear of ants and his antennae are also very sensitive and essential to him maintaining his balance.
