Theodore "Ted" Shackleford (known to the public banana suit as The Man with the Yellow Hat) is the deuteragonist of the Curious George franchise. In Curious George (2006), Ted gets his trademark yellow suit when he's tricked by the shop owners into purchasing it (claiming yellow's "the new khaki"). He then meets George, a playful but curious monkey who changes his life forever.
He is voiced by Corey Burton in the 1980s stop-motion series, Will Ferrell (who also portrays Buddy Hobbs in Elf, The Man Upstairs and President Business in The Lego Movie, Megamind in the film of the same name, Brennan Huff in Step Brothers, Ron Burgundy in Anchorman and its sequel and Brad Whitaker in Daddy's Home and Daddy's Home 2) in the 2006 animated film, Jeff Bennett (who also voices Pip in Enchanted, the titular character in Johnny Bravo, Prowl in Transformers Animated, Petrie in The Land Before Time, and Brooklyn in Gargoyles) in the TV series and later films, and Keith Ferguson in video games.
Biography
2006 film
He serves as the main protagonist in the film. He and the explorers travel to Africa to find the Lost Shrine of Zagawa, only to find out it was a paperweight. In the forest, he meets Curious George, who follows him from Africa all the way to New York. George ends up causing trouble for Ted, such as getting him kicked out of his apartment by Ivan and having the museum almost close down. Later in the film, they find out the small idol was actually a key to the larger one, and as a result, save Mr. Bloomsberry's museum from closing down.
Follow That Monkey
Ted and George try to help an elephant named Kayla reunite with her brother and sister.
Back to the Jungle
Ted tells George that he has to learn about caution. Later, he goes to the jungle when George's time capsule landed in Africa.
Royal Monkey
Ted accidentally took the Royal Monkey, Felipe, back to the apartment, and he didn't know that he wasn't George. And when Felipe used table manners and kept the bathroom clean, Ted thought that he changed George's personality, and wished that he had his old monkey back.
Space Jam: A New Legacy
In the 2021 anticipated sequel film to the 1996 Warner Bros film Space Jam, a live-action version of him can be seen in the background, despite all aforementioned animated projects being owned by Universal Studios.
