~ Sky in Shantae and the Seven Sirens |
Sky is the tritagonist and one of main characters in the Shantae video game series. She is a warbird trainer and longtime friend of Shantae, whom assists her on her quests.
She is voiced by Karen Strassman.
Personality
Sky is implied to be older than Shantae, and as such the latter often times looks up to her for advice. Whenever Shantae has an issue with her adventures, Sky is willing to listen to her and help her in anyway. She is notably more resourceful and much more intelligent than any of Shantae's other friends.
In addition to Shantae, Sky is known to get along well with Bolo, though at times she gets annoyed by his antics. However, Sky has an unstable relationship with Rottytops, as the two often times get into fights.
Sky also has an unstable relationship with her parents, as she sees them as ruining her life, with her mother being overly protective of her and her father be so unskilled with handling artifacts that it hinders her personal life when she starts dating Barracuda Joe.
Though wise, Sky can be somewhat selfish and at times snobby.
Biography
Shantae
Sky first appears when Shantae arrives in Oasis Town. There she tasks her pet bird Wrench to help Shantae to the Golem Stone, located out in the desert region.
When Shantae revisits her after obtaining the Golem Stone, she will simply tell Shantae what her next objective is.
Shantae: Risky's Revenge
Sky is seen attending a gathering in which Mimic has announced his newest relic he came across: an old oil lamp. She scolds Shantae for not arriving on time, but becomes more concerned when Risky Boots interrupts the meeting and steals the lamp. Afterwards, she informs Shantae that she and Bolo will stay behind and guard the town in case Risky returns.
Later on, when Shantae reaches a roadblock in finding the Hypno Baron's hideout, she assists Shantae by helping her repair a coffee machine in order for her to give to Rottytops brothers in exchange for locating the hideout.
When Shantae returns from the Hypno Baron's hideout, Sky informs her that Mimic has been kidnapped by Risky and Rottytops (the latter had betrayed Shantae in exchange for her "brains"). They are interrupted by the Squid Baron, who offers to help Shantae reach Risky's hideout in exchange for helping him finding his golden squid babies. Sky is skeptical on whether to trust the Squid Baron, but doesn't stop Shantae from helping him, believing that it's there only hope left to find Risky.
After Shantae defeats Risky and loses her genie powers, Sky tells her friend that she will help her adjust to life as a human, whilst vowing to protect Scuttle Town (now renamed Ammo Town after Shantae handed the deed over to the Ammo Baron) from danger.
Shantae and The Pirate's Curse
Sky plays a major supporting role in several of the game's subplots.
She is first seen assisting Shantae and Bolo in defending Scuttle Town (now Ammo Town) under the Ammo Baron's tyranny. Just before Shantae confronts the Baron, Sky warns her that he is straight ahead and to be prepared. After the battle, Shantae is arrested by palace guards, who explain that the Ammo Baron is the legal mayor of the town. Sky is summoned to the Sequin Land Palace explain her involvement, and tells Shantae to cooperate with the authorities.
Later on, Sky appears outside the Sequin Land Library, where she lends her library card to Shantae in order to get in. If Shantae returns the library card, Sky rewards her with 100 gems.
Over the course of the game, Sky develops a romantic interest with Barracuda Joe. Their relationship starts off rocky, when Sky catches Joe trying to remove one of her birds nests, this leads to the two getting into a violent standoff, with Sky nearly breaking Joe's arm off. However the two reconcile quickly by having a conversation with coffee.
When Shantae returns to see Sky again, she learns that she and Joe are now dating. However, their relationship hits a hurdle when Sky's parents visit her, much to her chargin. Joe ends up reading the inscription on a cursed sarcophagus Sky's father brought along with him, resulting in him becoming petrified. Sky is both shocked and angry as a result, blaming her parents for ruining her personal life.
Sky decides to revive Joe, so she travels to Tan Line Island for the cure. However, during the trip she is mistaken for the princess of Tan Line Temple and is subsequently captured. During her "imprisonment", she is forced to wear a skimpy, metallic outfit, which she strongly loathes. Shantae, alongside Rottytops and Risky Boots (who has formed a temporary truce with Shantae) frees her and the four of them return to Sequin Land without further incident. Afterwards, Sky agrees with the rest of the girls except Rottytops that they will never speak about the princess outfits again.
Later on, Shantae rescues Joe's soul and revives him. Although she is initially overjoyed, her happiness is short-lived and becomes upset when he calls off their relationship and leaves.
During the good ending, Sky is revealed to have overcome her anger, and is glad to see Shantae and everyone else safe.
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero
Sky assists Shantae throughout the game by helping her travel between islands via Giga Wrench. To do this, Sky gives Shantae a bird whistle to call Wrench in to give her a lift. Her her first try, Sky pushes Shantae off of Wrench, however she mentions that this is because Wrench can only stay giant for a limited amount of time before reverting to his normal size.
Later in the game, Sky alongside the rest of Scuttle Town's citizens, lose their memories to Holly, however despite this, she still helps Shantae travel around the islands, implying that she still knows Shantae to some degree.
Friends to the End
Sky plays her biggest role in the series during the Friends to the End storyline. After Shantae is brainwashed by Risky Boot's Dynamo, she alongside Bolo and Rottytops enter Shantae's mind to free her from Risky's control.
Despite their common goal however, she and and Rottytops keep getting into serious fights, with Bolo trying to break them apart. Sky tries to act as the team's leader during their journey, but ultimately concedes the belief, stating that Bolo the most determined person she knows.
In combat, Sky is less powerful than Bolo or Rottytops, but makes up for it with faster attacks and longer projectiles-based attacks.
Shantae and the Seven Sirens
Sky travels to Paradise Island with Shantae, Bolo, Mimic after Shantae is invited to participate in the Half-Genie Festival alongside other Half-Genies. She attends the rehearsal show, but witnesses all of the half-genies except Shantae being kidnapped by an unknown force, leaving her and Shantae's friends utterly shocked and confused simultaneously.
Following this incident, she and Mimic unsuccessfully try to dissuade Shantae from investigating the half-genies' disappearances, but Shantae refuses and leaves, leaving Sky frustrated. Despite this, she tries to enjoy her vacation as much as possible.
Later on, she travels with Shantae to Armor Town, where the two of them meet the Armor Baron, who initially agrees to help them on their quest to rescue the other half-genies, he tasks both of them to find several materials for armor they will need, but when they return with the materials, the Armor Baron betrays Sky and Shantae by trapping them and revealing that he has been working with Shantae's old enemy the Squid Baron all along. They are eventually rescued by the Lobster Siren (the only one of the sirens who is friendly). Sky tells Shantae that she wants to give the Armor Baron a piece of her mind for betraying them, but instead leaves for her hotel, implying that she believes that Shantae will deal with him appropriately.
She and Bolo later tag along in Shantae's adventure by traveling with her to the Squid Pit in order to rescue Rottytops and save the island from exploding.
During the epilogue, Sky is relieved to see Shantae safe after the hidden ship that Shantae was trapped inside exploded. She watches as Shantae bids farewell to the half-genies and the Lobster Siren, but becomes frustrated when Rottytops yawns in boredom in wanting to leave. She complains to her that Shantae deserves a moment of sympathy for having to leave, but this only leads her into getting into a fight with the zombie girl. When Bolo tries to stop them, she and Rottytops smack him, demanding to "Stay out of this".
