The Rescue Corps are an organisation dedicated to rescuing those stranded on planets across the universe. They were founded by the Shepherd Family at their settlement on Giya and have long trained Space-Dogs to assist in their rescuing operations as Rescue Pups. They serve as the protagonist faction in Pikmin 4.
Biography
The Rescue Corps travel to the unknown planet of PNF-404 after they received an distress signal that originated on the planet's surface. However, their spacecraft sustained damage while approaching their destination and all Rescue Officers aboard were jettisoned from the ship, scattering them across the planet and leaving them stranded. Rescue Corps HQ responded to this dilemma by sending out a Rookie Rescue Officer on the S.S. Beagle to investigate PNF-404 and locate the missing crew. Soon after arriving, the rookie encounters the corps' Rescue Pup Oatchi who helps them find both comms officer Collin and captain Erma Shepherd near the crash site of the missing crew's ship.
Collin makes a brief assessment of the downed vessel and learned that Sparklium was needed to restore its onboard systems so they be used to find more lost Rescue Officers. The Rookie befriends some nearby Pikmin to carry treasures covered in Sparklium towards the ship, giving it enough fuel to scan across different regions and broaden their search. They establish the crash site as a command post before the Rookie takes Oatchi and the Pikmin to explore new areas for castaways and any more Sparklium to improve the ship's capabilities.

Shepherd
Erma Shepherd, more commonly known as Shepherd, is the 99th captain of the Rescue Corps and top Rescue Pup trainer. She can help Oatchi become stronger or learn new abilities through the exchange of his Pup Drive. She is also a playable character in Dandori Battle Mode. Despite her status as a Space-Dog trainer, she is not good with other animals or canines.
Oatchi

Oatchi comes from a long line of Rescue Pups that have served the Shepherd Family for generations. He is a playable character in the games main campaign and possesses a lot of abilities that can assist the Rookie on their adventures. He can also improve his status by training and is even able to command Pikmin.
Rookie Officer
The Rookie Rescue Officer is the games main protagonist who is sent by Rescue Corps HQ to save those that have become stranded on PNF-404. Their name and appearance are chosen by the player and they can utilise various gadgets and items to help them lead squads of Pikmin through the planet's different regions.
Collin
Collin is the crew's communications operator who provides information and updates on the Rookie's objectives. He can let the Rookie choose which area they would like to explore in the main campaign and is a playable character in Dandori Battle Mode. He is also quite a skilled individual, having worked a few other jobs prior to joining the Rescue Corps.
Russ
Russ is a scientist and engineer who is able to craft various items or gadgets in his lab using scavenged materials. The Rookie and Oatchi can purchase Russ's creations using whatever materials they have gather with the Pikmin while exploring different areas. Russ loves science and is related to those who own one of the biggest companies on the planet Giya.
Dingo
Dingo is a ranger who specialises in solo missions and can assist the Rookie by completing Night Expeditions, Dandori Battles and Dandori Challenges on their behalf. He can even be called upon to engage in battles and challenges if the player exits them prematurely in the pause menu. Despite his arrogant and patronising attitude, Dingo is a pure-hearted individual who cares about his follow Rescue Officers and their welfare.
Yonny
Yonny is the crew's doctor that enjoys mixing up new remedies to treat all sorts of ailments. He likes to observe the Rookie and Oatchi during Night Expeditions and can use Glow Sap obtained from them to restore castaways that have been turn into Leaflings. He is also likes to read and is Dingo's childhood friend.
Bernard
Bernard is the crew's veteran pilot who operated in the private sector before joining the Rescue Corps. He was turned into a Leafling sometime after landing on PNF-404 and had to defeated in a Dandori Challenge before he could bought back to the Rescue Command Post and restored to normal. He has a particular way of speaking and has an optimistic attitude.
