Nancy Drew is a fictional heroine and the main protagonist of the Nancy Drew book series and numerous comics, films, video games, and various merchandise. She has become a popular character since the 1930s, and is a cultural icon. She is a teenager and amateur detective in River Heights, and solves crimes, cases and mysteries in her town alongside her friends.

She was portrayed by the late Bonita Granville in the 1930s, Maggie Lawson in the 2002 film, Emma Roberts in the 2007 film, Sophia Lillis in the 2019 film, Kennedy McMann in the 2019 tv series, and voiced by veteran voice actress Lani Minella and Brittany Cox in the pc adventure games.

She was created by Edward Stratemeyer.

Biography

Nancy Drew is a courageous young girl who spends her days solving mysteries and standing up against crime. Her father is Carson Drew, a lawyer who raised her alongside their housekeeper, Hannah Gruen. She is the best friend of Bess Marvin and George Fayne, who sometimes help her solve cases. Nancy won't let any thug, criminal, or other obstacle stand in her way as she goes through many lengths to solve any case. Ned Nickerson is her boyfriend. Her first is The Secret of the Old Clock.

2007 Film

In the titular 2007 film, Nancy is the main protagonist must solve the mystery of a missing film celebrity in California. When her father received a temporary job in Los Angeles, the Drew family moves from River Heights to the house of Dehlia Draycott, a famous star who was murdered. Though Nancy wants to continue crime solving, Carson discourages her from doing so as he wants her to be normal when going to her new high school. Nancy founds herself unable to fit into her new high school, and decides to focus on solving the murder of Dehlia Draycott with the assistance of Carson's business associate, Dashiel Biedermeyer. During her investigation, she learns that Dehlia had a child with an unnamed lover, and gave it away for adoption to keep it a secret.

Nancy meets Jane Brighton, who is revealed to be Dehlia's child, and learns that she is the sole beneficiary of Draycott's will and estate. She works with Ned Nickerson and Corky, a younger boy she befriended at her new school to solve the mystery, and eventually learns that Biedermeyer was behind the murder. Dashiel reveals that he murdered Dehlia due to her reappearance, and also tells Nancy that Leshing is Jane's biological father. Leshing assists Nancy in stopping Biedermeyer, and reveals that Jane is his daughter, reuniting the two. After solving the case, Nancy and her father return to River Heights, but not before Carson tells his daughter there's a new mystery in Scotland.

2019 TV Series

Early Life

In the 2019 tv series, Nancy was born on August 31st, 2000 to Lucy Sable and Ryan Hudson, who was a member of a elite family who looked down upon Lucy's status as "townie". Lucy and Ryan pretended to break up to please Ryan's family, but his father, Everett learned that Sable was pregnant, and threatened her. She would give birth to Nancy at the bluffs, and called her guidance counselor, Katherine Drew to keep her child and protect it from the Hudson family. After Lucy fell from the bluffs to her deaths, Katherine and her husband, Carson, decided to keep the child and named her Nancy, adopting her into their family. Katherine and Carson kept Nancy's origins a secret, but were unaware of who her biological father was.

Nancy proved herself to be a gifted child, and started solving cases around the age of twelve after saving Rose Turnbull from Nathan Gomber. She found success in solving crimes and cases, but her parents discouraged her from this since she was seen as a menace by the police. After graduating from high school, Katherine passed away from pancreatic cancer, causing Nancy to temporarily stop crime solving and going to college. She then proceeded to get a job as a waitress at The Claw, and began a sexual relationship with Ned Nickerson.

In The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, she was portrayed by Pamela Sue Martin and later Janet Louise Johnson in three episodes.
In the titular 1995 tv series, she was portrayed by Tracy Ryan.
In the titular 2019 tv series, she is portrayed by Kennedy McMann, Eden Summer Gilmore (who also played young Betty Cooper in Riverdale), Emma Oliver young, and Shiloh Ryn Smith as a baby.

Video Games

In the video games, she was voiced by Lani Minella and Claire Boynton younger from 1998 to 2015, who also voiced Omochao and Sindel. Brittany Cox would later voice the character in Midnight in Salem.
