Kipo Oak is the titular main protagonist of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts.

Kipo is a teenage girl who later finds out that she is a mute hybrid after dreaming her late mother who was also a mother hybrid. She befriend Mandu, a mutant pig, Wolf a wolf-raised orphan girl, Benson, a pop music loving hobo and his mutant insect companion Dave to find her people underground.

She is voiced by Karen Fukuhara, who also voices Glimmer in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Katana in Suicide Squad and The Female in The Boys.

History

The series opens up with Kipo washing out on the surface world where she finds the drain she came through sealed off by rocks.

Seeking out another way home, she finds that a town she entered was bigger than she read about it.

When she tries out a guitar, a big bird breaks it in half. She crosses paths with a blue four-eyed pig and called it Mandu.

After getting off on the wrong foot with "Wolf", Kipo learns from her how dangerous the world is.

Trivia

  • Kipo is terrible at naming plans; unless they are acronyms, like P.R.A.W.M.
    • Operarion Leafy Leaf, Operation Pop Pop.
  • Despite her relative naivety, Kipo shows signs of being a genius. Remembering clues, math formulas and evacuation plans without little effort; even attempting to remember which path she was flushed out of the underground with, forming a complex map rather than just simple lines.
  • So far, all of Kipo's abilities have shown animal-like features (if not just cat).
    • However, in Season 2, it is revealed these abilities belonged to a jaguar.
  • Her night vision is involuntary, as her feline eyes takeover when she's trying to see in pitch darkness; biological imperative for survival will always act on its own.
  • Kipo was originally named Minji, which is a common name in Korea.
  • She, along with Wolf, Mandu, and Dave, is the only character to appear in every episode of the series.
  • Kipo's mantra for entering and exiting her jaguar form "Herbs in, Herbs out" appears to be similar to "Wax on, Wax off" from the Columbia Pictures film The Karate Kid.
  • Her name "Kipo" (Κήπο) in Greek translates to the word "garden".
  • Kipo is the only human character from the original webcomic to retain her abnormal skin tone.
    • It is unknown why no character in the show has ever questioned this.
