Iris "Irey" West is a fictional heroine from DC Comics. She is the daughter of Wally West and Linda Park, the twin sister of Jai West and the older sister of Wade West.

Biography

Iris West, along with her twin brother Jai, was initially miscarried as a result of an attack by Zoom. However, Linda's pregnancy was miraculously restored during a later battle. When Wally went into the Speed Force during a battle with Superboy-Prime, he brought Linda and the infant twins with him. They traveled to various worlds and eventually returned to Earth.

As the twins grew older, they began exhibiting powers and aging rapidly. Their alien hosts taught Linda how to stabilize their powers. Back on Earth, Wally trained them to use their powers as heroes. Iris and Jai were captured by members of the Dark Side Club but managed to escape. Iris experienced rapid aging and gained full superspeed like her father.

After helping their father defeat Grodd, Iris continued to age rapidly, becoming an elderly woman. However, this turned out to be a hallucination created by Grodd. Wally cured their rapid aging by bringing them into the Speed Force. Iris became a living conduit for the Speed Force with great mastery over it.

Iris exhibited the ability to form "cocoons" of Speed Force, controlling speed and time within them. She repaired her father's weakening connection to the Speed Force. However, her traumatic experiences led her to refuse to tap into her powers again. During the events of "The Flash: Rebirth," Professor Zoom's return put a strain on Iris and Jai's connection to the Speed Force, causing them intense pain. Iris chose to take the bulk of the Speed Power connection, but Jesse Chambers saved her life using the Speed Mantra. Embracing her new role, Iris took up the mantle of Impulse and became a superhero, carrying on the legacy of Bart Allen.

Just before the Flashpoint altered reality, Irey and her twin brother Jai were pulled into the Dark Multiverse by a surge of dark matter. Wally West, their father, tried to save them but was too late. Ten years were erased from history, including the birth of Jai and Irey, and all memories of them were wiped out. Wally himself was lost in the Speed Force, and Linda, their mother, forgot about him and their children. Rebirth: Dark Multiverse: Irey and Jai found themselves trapped on a planet in the Dark Multiverse, created from their father's fear of never seeing his family again. Eventually, Wally located them but discovered he couldn't destroy the planet alone. He made a deal with Tempus Fuginaut, merging with the Mobius Chair to save the Multiverse in exchange for Tempus taking Irey and Jai to Earth 0. They were integrated into Earth 0's history and reunited with Linda, who regained her memories of her family.

Legion of Zoom: Irey and Jai responded to Max Mercury's call from the Speed Force to help the Flash Family battle the Legion of Zoom. Irey had a brief encounter with Bart Allen, who accused her of stealing the Impulse identity. The younger members of the Flash Family realized that disrupting the time-displaced villains' frequencies would send them back to their proper times without memories of their time with the Legion.

Death Metal: During The Batman Who Laughs' remaking of the world in his image, Linda, Jai, and Irey sought refuge in the Speed Force along with the rest of the Flash Family. They briefly reunited with Wally when he brought the Mobius Chair into the Speed Force to keep it out of The Batman Who Laughs' hands.

Infinite Frontier: After the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal, the Park-West family began rebuilding their lives. Jai and Irey dealt with trauma and recurring nightmares, but as they returned to normalcy, the nightmares subsided. Wally started teaching them about being superheroes, although he hesitated to let them enter the field and even confiscated Irey's Impulse costume.

During a Daddy-Daughter Dance at Terrifictech, Irey and Wally discovered that the attendees were rendered unconscious by a disgruntled former employee called "Doctor Nightmare." Irey convinced Wally to let her help, and together they fought against Doctor Nightmare's nightmares. They emerged victorious, and Wally took Irey home. Along the way, they stopped in Paris to dance in front of the Eiffel Tower. At school, Irey befriended Maxine Baker, who turned out to be the daughter of a superhero with her own powers. Maxine invited Irey to her house, and when Linda refused, Irey sneaked out. However, they were kidnapped by Mammoth and Shimmer, working for a metahuman child trafficking ring. Irey and Jai managed to defeat the kidnappers, with Jai gaining temporary superhuman strength and toughness from Irey's connection to the Speed Force. They also rescued their father Wally and Maxine, revealing her father as Animal Man. The Wests and Maxine returned home safely.

During a mission to find their "uncle" Barry Allen, the Flash Family gathered at the Flash Museum to enter the Speed Force and locate him. Despite being told it was dangerous, Irey jumped into the portal, taking Jai along with her. They ended up in a dark city and encountered Night-Flash, an alternate version of Barry who believed they were working for his enemy. They managed to escape Night-Flash and return to Earth 0 with the help of Jay Garrick. The Fraction, an alien
