Paige Elisabeth Guthrie , also known as Husk, is a fictional character from Marvel Comics.
Guthrie is a superhero associated with the X-Men and Generation X. A mutant, Husk has the ability to remove one layer of skin - or "husk" - revealing an epidermis of a different composition beneath. She often changes into metal or stone form, but can shift into a variety of substances. Sher later received a secondary power, which could activate and change her mood.
Husk is from a Kentucky coal mining family and is the younger sister of the X-Men's Cannonball. Unlike her brother, Husk is self-conscious of being seen as a "hick" (Jubilee often called her 'hayseed'). As a member of the X-Men's 1990s-era junior team Generation X, she established herself as an overachiever. She later joined the X-Men, and has been a member of Generation X, the X-Corps and the Legionnaires.
She was created by William Johnson and Bill Mantlo, and first appeared in Rom Annual #3 (September 1984).
Biography
Early Life
Paige Elisabeth Guthrie was born in Kentucky to Thomas and Lucinda Guthrie, and is the sister to Sam Guthrie and other siblings.
Becoming Husk
After Sam's powers manifested when saving his family during a cave-in, Paige attempted to unlock her potential mutant abilities to no avail. Frustrated over this, she became angry and unlocked her power - the ability shed her outer layer of skin to reveal a new shape or state underneath. Paige initially kept this a secret to her family, but was later abducted by the alien Phalanx during his plan to assimilate mutants. She was saved by the X-Men, enrolled to the new Xavier school and formed Generation X alongside her fellow abductees. Later on, Paige joined the X-Corps after Xavier's school was closed down, but returned to her studies after the corps was disbanded.
While at the new Xavier's school, she continued her studies on the environment and developed a romantic relationship with the fellow mutant Archangel. After graduating with high honors, she assisted Warren in establishing the Mutantes Sans Frontières and later welcomed her brother and sister Josh and Melody into the fold once their powers manifested. After the events of M-Day, Husk was one of the few mutants who didn't lose their powers.
