Gabu is a wolf and one of the two main protagonists of the Japanese novels Arashi no Yoru ni, also known as One Stormy Night, along in the film and TV series adaption.
On a stormy night, Gabu became friends with Mei but found out he is a goat; however, they have a lot in common. The two met each other in secret, however, when their respective kin's find out, the two decide to run away to another forest.
He is voiced by Shidō Nakamura II in the Japanese dub while being voiced by Tustin Gilmer Macafee in the English dub.
Appearance
Gabu is medium build brown wolf have a high body, long legs, broad skull tapering to a narrow muzzle. The tail is bushy, and coat has a thick, dense underfur.
Personality
Gabu is friendly wolf he surprised saw Mei a goat instead he be friend with him. Also, unlike his pack is possible he doesn't want due be skinny in fact he never tasted goat before life when he looked at Mei looking tasted tires to eat him but refused to do so.
Background
He was pup and be skinny his mother wants to eat meat he tries to get throw up. He tries to jump off the cliff getting too sacred he laugh at this pack.
Biography
Gabu taking the shelter farm until storm clear. While he waits, he hears someone Mei believes like a goat in the farm they had talked he apologized about his leg he fine telling in honest he won't be alone in dark he sneezes due to rain they can't smell each other. While waiting for raining end talking Mei a strange where he lives, he from Jumping Gorgeous where Wolfs from surprising Mei knows living with wolfs is dangerous not to him. Mei telling him that he lived Pleasant Mountain from goat's surprise Gabu two believe their good food. They talked about the different food their eat and talking their mothers Mei mother die he was young and so his mother suspires they both in common eventually storm passing and decided could see each other tomorrow while having lunch together.
Next morning Mei excited to see him while waiting he is hiding in tree. Gabu arrived looking him when seeing a tree know that he here he tries to sneak give the world one Strom night and Mei give words surprising, shocked Goat see as wolf and wolf see as goat, they stared each other for moments quickly got over with they decided to continue having lunch. While walking they surprise between goat and wolf, they reach top of mountain but due to Strom they need jump the Cliff Gabu goes first he jump in but losing his lunch he be fined Mei worried him hasn't eat in days. They continue walking Gabu started getting hungry he looked at Mei hide started to drool he want to eat but he tries to resist he closed his eyes they finally reached top of mountain. After lunch they stared home Gabu instincts about kicking in see. he changed at attempted to eat him getting stop for moments give important that could meet again.
Mei brings his friends meeting Gabu. Gabu waiting for Mei, he is spotting him with two goats he started hiding in bushes. The goats waiting for mystery friend Mei spending time with her sees bushes moving notice Gabu in there talking about the kicked Gabu forehead cause come out two goats scared running away. Apologies for scaring friends and thus keeping secrets friends of Wolf and Goat.
Next day Gabu send message to Mei want to meeting Crumbling Hills Barry found him bringing him for the meeting. During the Meeting the leader of pack Giro announced Winter season are coming need catch prey soon as possible in afternoon pack goes for hunt at Crumbling Hills goat hunting shocked Gabu that Mei meets at know he be in danger.
Crumbling Hills started to froggy the Pack started to split find goat Gabu started for Mei as soon see him in horror Barry behind him attempted to kill him a rock trumpet down he dodged it Mei vanished getting rescued by Gabu they are hiding in rock tunnel until pack is done sorry to Mei couldn't see a full moon because of fog want to stay here tonight and Mei. In wolf pack something went wrong. Giro noticed not here he find out he betrayed them screech and bring him here. In rage at Gabu realized what he done knowing exactly he did by saving the prey goat escape. With notice Gabu explained to them he friend with a goat Barry called him a fool trying to reason with him could be spy for information would be downfall in pack believe could starving to death because friend with goat. Gabu trying give reasons can't be all goats only one Barry yelling at him give another reason only used pretending by friend believe looking out for other goats with that Giro order wolf Gabu in the pit decided his punishment in the morning.
In the morning, he wakes up Giro made decision that originally that Gabu put to death, but he makes an exchange to spare his life due to being a friend of Gabu father making to pretending ring him for information at advance he gives Gabu only chance redeem himself if he decides goes something stupid or try to run away death to traitor Gabu understood.
On raining every animal hearing about goat and wolf are friends being to watch them even Goat pack and Wolf Pack. Gabu see Mei pretending nothing happened as walking started raining again, they need crossing the river greeting spook by thunder Mei Slippy through the rock Gabu got him in time saving him. After saved him he is hiding no more he tells Mei truth being spy his pack and so does him. They decided to run away even mean never return they jump in the river current water wave is strong all way to waterfall. Gabu waking up showing no sign of Mei he shouts his name, but no response Gabu believe his fault dragging him started to cry until he hears Mei voice, he alive. Now started journey to find new home they need though the mountain. As soon they halfway the mountain they been hunting by Wolf pack now Gabu is full traitor hiding in brush wolf steps Mei feet about to shout until Gabu cover his mouth Zack and Beach spotting wolf ears get caught Gabu and Mei making run for it. They made top to snow mountain, but strong winds Mei get caught with it Gabu find a cave use it until snowing stop. The snowing still going looking at Mei for moments snap out it he realizes only reason Gabu looking him look delicious he is trying pretending, but he always figures out he been without food many days and he never survive in weather. He asks Gabu to lived and only do that by eating him shockingly he says that he can't eat him his stomach growling loud prove that he indeed hungry. He still can't eat him his belly continue to be growling again and again he started crying forget him his stomach won't stop even Mei shed tear. Breaking down in tears why he born as wolf. Mei asked answers honestly since they first met in old barn that if was a goat what he could have done even Mei fine pretend. He knows it choices between surviving or starving to death doesn't matter never see each other again even hurt to think about it Mei feels same thing. He accepted honor his wish and say goodbye. He stared to thinking can really kill his best friend he started looking he digs in snow nothing but snow. He started find the way without killing Mei he spotted his former clans and decided not defend Mei and fighting his former pack even cost his Life.
He howls then jumped off cliff ready fighting his former pack they hear howl knowing Gabu here getting ready fighting he might taking down few of them when Giro appear to want to kill Gabu wolf pack step down one on one he bites his neck he got up Giro about to finish him until cause avalanche fall everyone. Caught shouting out Mei name.
In morning snow finally stopped Mei other side the forest he started looking for Gabu looking for him for hours need rest for moments hear a monkeys warning wolf here he knows that Gabu here he sees him go change in him but get hit taking him in cave. Mei wakes up see Gabu but something went wrong he can't remember Mei just his "dinner" knowing he can't really remember everything spending time with Mei. He could eat him right now he is waiting until full moon tonight Mei tries get his remember as a friend waiting for full moon. He admits willy let eat him but not like this if wish never met one stormy night that triggers it Gabu started to remember Mei glad that he got his memory back. Night fall Gabu and Mei watching full moon rising and now goat and wolf can start new life in forest.
