Miyashiro Erika Wagner (宮代・エリカ・ワーグナー), more commonly referred as Wagner, is a major character of the 2D anime fighting game series called Under Night In-Birth. She initially debuted in the Exe:Late expansion, then later became playable in the console version of Exe:Late[st] as a secondary antagonist. She later redeemed herself in later installment in II [Sys:Celes].

She is a high-ranking 4th member of the Licht Kreis. She is known throughout the organization for her attitude towards her work and unmatched power. She is the main rival of Orie Ballardiae and Londrekia Light, as well as an archenemy of Gordeau.

She is voiced by Shizuka Ishigami, who also voiced Petra Macneary from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

She was dispatched to this area, where her acquaintance Orie resides, under orders to learn valuable lessons outside of combat. Her hunch soon proved true with Kuon the Aeon's incursion. Her mission? To destroy Kuon, even if it costs her own life.

Appearance

She is a young girl with an average height of 160 cm. She has red crimson eyes and blonde hair styled into two large spiral curls. During combat, she wears a red cape with gold trimmings and embellished with the Licht Kreis symbol, a long-sleeve white shirt and dark grey, form-fitting spats, and knee-length, white lipped high heel boots.

Personality

At first, she is shown to be cold and harsh and constantly belittling comments and even outright threatening others on sight when under stress. Despite that, she is actually rather complex, but she doesn't know how to fully express her emotions due to living a mostly sheltered life. She can also be analytic and can see how others truly feel just from analyzing their body languages alone.

Biography

Hearing of Kuon the Aeon is plotting to open the Abyss on the Final Night, she seeks out to defeat the great evil as well as seeking revenge for her Licht Kreis' defeat against the Night Blade five hundred years ago.

She encountered Waldstein, a former Licht Kreis commander turned a Night Blade member. She recalled him about his battle with Kuon and why he was the reason the Licht Kreis lost the war. They fight afterwards.

Wagner's next encounter is her rival Orie, the latter is relieved that the former made it close to Abyss safely (with Orie mentioning Mika Returna and Kaguya Jinguu risked their lives helping her). Wagner was surprised about these two's actions. While she berated them for how foolish they are, she did not want their final wishes be wasted. Although, Mika and Kaguya came and inform her that they are all alright. Wagner tells Orie to take Mika and Kaguya back to safety.

Wagner finally arrives at the Abyss and meets face to face with Kuon. Before they fight however, Wagner delivered a message from her leader Adelheid, Princess of Licht Kreis. After she defeated him, she used all of her EXS to burn the entirety of Kuon and the Abyss to ashes. As her body became severely weakened, she bids farewell to Licht Kreis and Orie. She regretted that she could not get a chance to rematch with her. She also reflected on her past actions on the lives that she took. Refusing to die, she slowly got up while leaving her Fire Brand and Ancile.

Abilities & Weapons

  • Flame Tyrant: Her EXS ability, it allows her to manipulate fire to her will, including her sword and shield channeling with it. While her EXS ability is powerful, it could potentially overheat her body if she does not suppress it.
  • Fire Brand: Her short orange sword with flame-like patterns. Its small size and light weight means Wagner can strike at her opponents at quick successions.
  • Ancile: Her small circular red shield embellished with the Licht Kreis symbol. Despite the shield primarily for defensive purpose, she would use it to charge and bash her opponents.

Relationships

  • Murayama and Sakurai: Her two subordinates during her time in Hyde's school after being her superiors to calm herself. They are the only two people Wagner is able to have decent conversation with, given her ice-cold personality.
  • Orie Ballardiae: After their sword training, she considered Orie as her bitter rival (although Orie does not see her the same way). Despite their one-sided rivalry, she is willing to team up with Orie in stopping Kuon from bringing ruins to the world.
  • Gordeau: After she killed his best friend Roger with no remorse, Gordeau developed a self-hatred and guilt for not saving his friend. He vowed to seek revenge on Wagner and hopefully find some closures.

  • Wagner is similar to Tsubaki Yayoi from BlazBlue series in a lot of ways:
    • Both are design based around Valkyrie themes and used sword and shield as their primary weapons.
    • Both are portrayed as one of more serious characters in their respective series.
    • Both are born and grew up in a strict family and eventually served their respective organization without much questions (Licht Kreiss and Novus Orbis Librarium).
    • However, differences between Wagner and Tsubaki are that:
      • Wagner is an Anti-Hero while Tsubaki started off as an Anti-Villain.
      • Gameplay wise, Tsubaki has an all-rounded playstyle while Wagner is more rushdown heavy.
