Wendall "Bud" White is the deuteragonist of L.A. Confidential. He is portrayed by Russell Crowe, who would later portray Maximus Decimus Meridius in the 2000 acclaimed movie Gladiator.
Bud White is a plainclothes police officer who has a habit of violently punishing woman-beaters. His obsession later sparks a feud with Edmund Exley when the two find themselves seeking to maintain justice within the LAPD through their own means. Though they start out as bitter rivals, the two gradually form a bond when White takes a personal investigation on a murder incident - in which White's former partner, Dick Stensland, is found to be one of the victims.
