Ann Halford is the main protagonist of the light novel, manga, and anime series Sugar Apple Fairy Tale.
She was voiced by Yuka Nukui in the Japanese version and Celeste Perez in the English dub.
Appearance
Anne is Candy Craftswoman. Her hair is strawberry blonde, and her eyes are red with orange accents. She ties her hair in loops with lavender-colored ribbons. She's described by Jonas to be "small for a fifteen-year-old."
She is seen wearing a short-sleeved pink dress with a laced leather corset. She wears brown flats with ribbons that reach a quarter of her legs.
Biography
When she was a young girl, Ann's mother would teach her the trade of making candy from silver sugar. Eventually, her mother died when Ann turned 15 leading her to trying to decide to become a silver sugar master and take part in the Pull Soul Day, a winter event with the hopes of sending her mother's soul to Heaven. However, to get to the town of Lewiston, she would have to buy a warrior fairy to protect herself.
While at a fairy black market, Ann sees a man grasping the detached wing from a small fairy named Mythril Rid Pod and crushing it (it being explained that a fairy's wings functioned in the same vein as a heart and destroying it would kill the fairy). In an act of defiance, Ann runs over and grabs the wing from the man's hand and presents it to the small fairy. She then meets Shall Fen Shall, an obsidian fairy, and purchases him.
However, viewing fairies as friends, Ann offers the fairy friendship to which he declines. From there, she makes a promise to him that once she arrived to Lewiston and became a silver sugar master, she would free him. She would fulfill her end of the bargain prior to her arrival to Lewiston.
Unfortunately, after getting into an incident with her neighbor Jonas Under, who stole her creation and smeared her clothes with blood to attract hungry wolves, Ann's entry is rejected along with Jonas's due to the inspectors being uncertain on which one made the figure. Ann then slaps Jonas across the face for the attempted murder.
In order to build up her reputation and earn money for her work, Ann decides to go to Philax to make sculptures under the watch of the Duke of Philax William Alburn. Jonas is also selected to craft under him, but due to the Duke's growing madness, Jonas is consistently beaten by the older man. When Jonas threatens to crush Mithrill's wing unless Ann went with him to speak to Alburn, Ann offers to remain and continue designing a silver sugar sculpture of a female fairy even if it meant that she would get abused as well. Since he liked Ann's work more, Alburn agrees.
Learning that the fairy in the painting was Alburn's lover who had disappeared after being born from the sea and living with him for years, Ann is able to make the sculpture in her likeness and is freed.
