Luard also known as Alt is the main antagonist of the JRPG Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, a supporting character in Atelier Firis: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Journey and a major character in Atelier Lydie and Suelle: The Alchemists of the Mysterious Painting.
He was once an alchemist and a friend of Plachta until he decided to use a dangerous type of alchemy known as Ablation Alchemy for his goals. After loosing to Plachta who wanted to stop him, Plachta splits Luard's soul artificial lifeforms known as Meklet and Atomina.
Biography
Background
Luard was once an alchemist whose goals was to use alchemy to help others and make the world better. He shared this goal with his best friend, Plachta. One day he discovered Ablation Alchemy, an alchemy more powerful that the original one, which when used cause damage to the environment, and sought to use it abundantly despite the consequences. Due to that, Plachta turned against him and fought him which then resulted in Plachta splitting Luard's soul in two artificials lifeforms known as Meklet and Atomina, with the impossibility to use alchemy again while Plachta would seal her soul into a book and erase her memory.
Atelier Sophie
500 years later, as Meklet and Atomina, Luard would befriend Sophie. After learning that Sophie plans to help Plachta to regain her memory, Luard would help her in her goals so that he could find the location of the Cauldron of Knowledge, a cauldron which allows anyone to use alchemy.
When Plachta remembers the location of the Cauldron, Meklet and Atomina would go there and use it to regain their true form. They would then proceed to leave with the Cauldron and use Ablation Alchemy again. Luard would then have a fight against Sophie and Plachta which he will lose and then be split as Meklet and Atomina once again.
In the additional scenario, both Meklet and Atomina wanders in the area in hope to find a way to use alchemy again. On their way they meet Sophie and Plachta many times (the latters looking for them to know what are they doing) but manage to escape from them. Upon returning to the Ancient library, they meet a Dragon, but are saved by Sophie and Plachta. Afterwards, Meklter and Atomina tell them that they aim to use alchemy again. While Plachta is reluctant to help them, Sophie decides to do it. After they gain the ability to do alchemy again, both Meklet and Atomina would leave the city.
Atelier Firis
Meklet and Atomina meet Firis many times during her travel. They would eventually ask for her help to build an airship in order to go to the Skyfaring Ark to find what happened to an old friend of them.
Atelier Lydie and Suelle
While they were doing a synthesis, both Meklet and Atomina felt to the cauldron and became one again in a younger version of Luard. He would take the name of Alt and travel to the city of Merveille.
There helps Lydie and Suelle to achieve their goals and assisting them to face dangerous threats such as Falgior and Remplire monsters while trying toreconciles completly with Plachta. In order to move on from what he has done in his past, he goes alongside Lydie and Suelle's party to Etel Nepica and fights an past version of himself whom he will beats. He eventually succeed with the help of Lydie and Suelle to reconcile with Plachta.
