Blackbeard was a character that appeared in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
History
Blackbeard was a pirate warrior from ancient Earth who had been captured and made to serve Monteeg. He had a pirate-like demeanor and wielded a cutlass. Though he was allegedly the Blackbeard of legend, he sported futuristic armor and a matching helmet.
His spirit was finally freed from this servitude when He-Man broke open the dome that held all of Monteeg's army captive, which was located in the Eternian location of Polonia at that time.
Trivia
- The eye protection on Blackbeard's helmet is similar to that of Zodac and other Cosmic Enforcers, suggesting that Monteeg has provided the pirate with updated armour.
- Tom Sito provided the storyboards for Castle of Heroes and also suggested designs from Hannibal and Blackbeard that were much more historically accurate and was disappointed with their final appearance.
- When J. Michael Straczynski wrote the updated series bible for season two, he suggested that the character designed created for Blackbeard could be reused for a new character named 'Lasar the Space Pirate'.
