Yoshimi Sakanaka (阪中 佳実 Sakanaka Yoshimi) was a student at North High in Kyon and Haruhi Suzumiya's Class 1-5 in year 0. Her family is very wealthy.
She is a member of the chorus and wanted to make friends with Suzumiya. She is friends with Nanaka Onogi, Ayano Naruzaki and Mizuho Saeki. Kyon was only vaguely aware of her, knowing her only by her surname Sakanaka ('阪中). He noticed her playing volleyball with Suzumiya.
When the SOS Brigade distributed flyers, she collected one.
She first appears in Wandering Shadow when she started believing that her dog, Rousseau (nicknamed "JJ" by her father and Haruhi), was being bothered by a spirit as well as the other dogs and cats in her neighborhood. She approached the SOS Brigade and become their second client.
