Chillis (known as chili peppers in American English) are varieties of the berry-fruit of plants from the genus Capscium.^[1]

Uses

Chilli was a known flavour of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans,^[2] as well as its powder. The treatment for Squabbs Syndrome includes keeping the dragon warm and feeding plenty of chilli, pepper and a crate of rum four times a day.^[3] Chilli powder could also be used to treat scale rot in Fire Dwelling Salamanders.^[4]

Mary and Rosa Karasu had a famous recipe for chilli con carne that used chilli peppers.^[5]

Behind the scenes

• In American English, "chili" often refers to chilli con carne, a dish consisting of ground beef and chilli peppers or chilli powder often with tomatoes and kidney beans. From the Pottermore picture of the chilli flavour of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, the artist may have assumed chilli flavour meant chilli con carne, rather than chilli pepper.
