CodexPortrait BiomeErebus

Erebus is the location where all the souls of the recently deceased initially arrive and wait before being taken to the rest of the Underworld. In Hades, Erebus is a bonus area accessed via the Infernal Gate or by fighting Charon's boss fight. In Hades II, Erebus is now a fully-fledged region and is the first region that Melinoë must fight through to reach the Underworld.

The following region is Oceanus.

Codex Entry

''...If the dead excel at anything, it is having to wait. It is the first thing almost all the dead must do, upon arriving at the edges of this realm. Erebus, their waiting area, lies shrouded in darkness, betraying to the dead no hint of whether they shall continue their existence in the splendors of Elysium or in the pits of Tartarus. Some wretched souls, for a variety of reasons, remain in Erebus indefinitely. For these, the Master sometimes offers a condition of reprieve: to do his bidding or to wait, and wait, and wait awhile longer.''

Book of Shadows Entry

'Erebus has less fallen to ruin as it has returned to its more-natural state.
The Lost Souls that dwell there have nowhere left to go. They are well past the point where grieving for them is of any use.
