Technology & Combat Characteristics
A class of large land battleships. Unlike its predecessor, the Lesseps-class, the Compton-class was propelled by caterpillar treads instead of scale motors, allowing it to move on terrains other than dessert.[1]

History
The Compton-class heavy land battleship was a new addition to ZAFT's complement of ground battleships, and were fielded after the First Alliance-PLANT War. At least three Compton-class battleships were known to have been deployed on the Eurasian front. Two of these were destroyed by the GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam during its rampage across central Eurasia,[2][3] and a third, the Uhlenbeck, was involved in Operation Angel Down, a mission to eliminate the independent battleship Archangel. The Uhlenbeck was later reinforced by the ZAFT flagship Minerva.[4]
