Broken

Broken is the second episode of Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance [1].

Synopsis

With the battle lost, an injured Captain Solari retreats with Dr. Kasuga and Lieutenant Lesean. They regroup with an infantry unit and plan an escape [1].

Events

The RX-78(G)E Gundam EX is prepared to destroy Iria's MS-06F Zaku II F Type, but is distracted by fire from Magella Attack tanks. Iria exits her disabled Gundam and crosses the battlefied on foot to LeSean's Zaku. She pries open the hatch, to find him alive in a smoke-filled cockpit. A Federation tank arrives, ordering her to step down from the Zaku, but the tank is destroyed by a Zaku.

Ony Kasuga, a UMRC medic, arrives, and offers a crowbar to help Iria pry open the hatch. Iria opens the hatch and pulls LeSean out.

The Gundam is attacked by a flight of three Dopps, and destroys all of them. Iria says that the battle is lost, and ventures into the woods with LeSean and Ony. They encounter the wounded Ander Heaton, who tells them of a group planning to evacuate the base. After defeating a Federation fire team in the woods, they arrive at a small parking lot with Zeon vehicles and 2Lt. Hayley Arhun of the First Armored Infantry. They decide to evacuate the wounded in a Russel 1/12 Zebu.

As the group prepares to evacuate, Ony pulls medical supplies from a UMRC truck. Two Federation soldiers order him to stop; Hayley shoots them dead.

The group devises a plan to distract the Gundam. As the Gundam attacks a Zaku, Iria shoots it with a disabled Zaku Tank, and immediately exits. Heaton has parked a fuel tanker truck behind the Zaku Tank. The Gundam attacks Iria's Zaku Tank, and LeSean uses a second, damaged Zaku Tank to explode the fuel truck. The Gundam is knocked back and damaged, but still moves.

The evacuation proceeds with the Russel truck, a PVN.44/1 Weasel armored personnel carrier, and a Zeon jeep leaving the base, headed into the woods. LeSean's Zaku Tank can only drive in revers, but it follows the other vehicles, carrying Iria and Heaton with it.

The next day, in the cab of the Zebu truck, Ony and Hayley debate the morality of Hayley shooting the Federation soldiers. He wishes she hadn't; she says it was necessary.

LeSean continues to drive the Zaku Tank in reverse, passing through a cow pasture. Heaton asks how long Iria and LeSean have served together; LeSean discusses Iria's career as a concert violinist.

The truck convoy passes into a small town, and comes across a Federation roadblock. Hayley orders the convoy to break through the roadblock. The Weasel is destroyed by a Type 61 tank. The Russel dodges cannonfire but crashes into a building. A second Type 61 appears; both tanks advance on the Russel when LeSean's Zaku Tank uses its rear bulldozer blade to charge the tanks. One is destroyed by the ramming; LeSean shoots the second and a third. The Federation soldiers flee in an unarmored truck.

The Zeon soldiers begin to regroup, but Iria has another feeling, and orders everyone out of the Zaku Tank. A beam rifle round destroys the Zaku Tank's torso, setting a large portion of the town on fire: The Gundam has arrived. It approaches the convoy, and aims its Gatling cannon at Iria, but does not fire for a few moments. It takes machine gun fire from two friendly force's MS-07B-3 Gouf Customs. The convoy use their time to free the jeep and drive out. The Gundam stabs one Gouf in the cockpit and decapitates the other, but does not follow the fleeing convoy.
