Ghost Sweeper Mikami develops mostly on Earth, in a world in which the concept of supernatural is far more accepted and influencing than in the real world.

In that world, ghosts are seen as a real threat in everyday life; and beings considered as mythology, like the nine-tailed fox, or the mazoku, are considered and studied by the armies.

Most of the story develops in Japan during a period of economic recession, the country is going through a boom in the construction area, which causes an unexpected source of employment, the business of "ghost sweeping" which basically consist in repelling supernatural beings.

Locations

The series main location is Tokyo, but eventually the characters also move to other places, real or fictional, according to the circumstances. Below is a list of the places visited in the series.

Italy	The mission to confront Count Bloodeau took all major GS to Italy, where they took a plane to the Bloodeau Island in the Mediterranean Sea.
Hong Kong	To ruin Medusa's plan to bring the Makai to Earth, Yukinojō Date asks the Ghost Sweepers for help in Hong Kong.
South Pole	The main plot fight against Ashtaroth happens in his base at the South Pole in a building resembling the Babel Tower.
The Space	One of the first adventures placed Okinu and Yokoshima on space to get rid of a Gremlin.
The Moon	One of the many plans of Medusa brought the heroes to the moon.
Siberia	After de battle against Medusa the GSs had to rescue Maria and Tadao Yokoshima from Siberia.
Vatican	A special contract for Mikami came directly from Vatican City.
Garden of Eden	Yokoshima got lost in Ashtaroth's base and he appeared in the Garden of Eden, being "rescued" by Vespa.
Narnia	Taiju Yokoshima is working on this country.
Thans	Thans is a small and rich kingdom responsible for the Seirei Seki Quartz technology.
