Lewis Allan "Lou" Reed (March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter.

Role in Gorillaz

Kano provides vocals on the track Some Kind of Nature from the third Gorillaz studio album, Plastic Beach. He also appears in a submarine in the "On Melancholy Hill" music video, alongside other collaborators. Reed joined Gorillaz on the Escape to Plastic Beach World Tour in 2010.

Career

Lou Reed, after serving as guitarist, vocalist, and principal songwriter of the Velvet Underground, his solo career spanned several decades.

In May 2013 Reed underwent a liver transplant at the Cleveland Clinic. Afterwards, on his website, Reed wrote of feeling "bigger and stronger" than ever, but on October 27, 2013, he died from liver disease (from a problem during surgery) at his home in Southampton, New York, at the age of 71.

Lou Reed has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice; first time as a member of the Velvet Underground in 1996 and secondly as a solo act in 2015.
