Typhon, also dubbed Titanus Typhon, is a giant Titan in the MonsterVerse created by Legendary Pictures who was introduced in the 2019 film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, as a name briefly seen on a monitor, and it is briefly mentioned in Godzilla: King of the Monsters - The Official Movie Novelization.
Name
"Typhon" is a monstrous and powerful male serpentine giant in Greek mythology and the father of many monsters, such as Scylla. He was one of the strongest creatures in all Greek myths, and Zeus could only beat him with the use of thunderbolts before imprisoning him underneath Mount Etna.
History
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
At some point, Typhon had Monarch Outpost 92 built around it in Angkor Wat, Cambodia. When Ghidorah calls all the Titans, Typhon breaks free and begins to hunt with its new pack, attacking the Philippines. When the ORCA calls all Titans to Boston, Typhon does not arrive in time for the battle and does not see Godzilla become the alpha of all Titans again.
Trivia
- The outpost Typhon was contained in, Monarch Outpost 92, is a possible reference to the 1992 Toho film Godzilla vs. Mothra.
- A chapter of the Typhon awakening was written for Godzilla: King of the Monsters - The Official Movie Novelization, but was cut because there were several Titan awakenings in sequence. [1]
- According to Greg Keyes, the approved design in the novel was "not remotely dragon-like".[2]
