Malenka is a location in the MonsterVerse and first appeared in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It is a city established by the Iwi to serve as their home in the Hollow Earth.
History
Foundation
Thousands of years before the modern era, the Iwi built the city of Malenka within the Hollow Earth, and its location is adjacent to several Vile Vortices. They used the gravitational anomaly to lift stones and quartz crystals that served as the foundation of the city's buildings and pyramids. The Iwi of Malenka worship Godzilla and Mothra as deities who protect them from the Skar King and his army, with Mothra producing a form of silk to cover and shield the city.
Centuries later, Jia, Ilene Andrews, Bernie Hayes, and Trapper come across Malenka, and the Iwi welcome them after realizing that Jia is the Iwi from Skull Island prophesied to summon Mothra when the Skar King and his army are ready to invade the surface world. Kong and Suko eventually arrive at Malenka after narrowly escaping Shimo and the Skar King's followers. Trapper uses the B.E.A.S.T. Glove to heal Kong's frostbite before the latter decides to bring Godzilla from the surface to help battle the Skar King's army. Jia then fulfills the Iwi prophecy of summoning Mothra on top of Malenka's pyramids before they fly off to the surface to help Kong bring Godzilla down to the Hollow Earth. After the Skar King and his army discovered Malenka, Trapper leads a flock of Vertacines to distract the Great Apes before Godzilla, Kong, and Mothra arrive to protect the city. The Iwi then unleash an anti-gravitational shockwave to keep the invaders at bay. However, when the anti-gravitational shockwave's effect stops, the Skar King and Shimo go through a Vile Vortex to the surface, with Godzilla, Kong, and eventually Suko following them. Mothra eventually repairs the barrier surrounding Malenka after she, Godzilla, Kong, Shimo, and Suko succeeded in defeating the Skar King and his army.
Trivia
- Malenka's name is revealed in the novelization of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
- Malenka shares several similarities with Seatopia from Godzilla vs. Megalon, since both of them are ancient subterranean civilzations that worship giant monsters as deities.
- The pyramids in Malenka is similar to conspiracy theories of a rumored crystal pyramid found at the bottom of the Bermuda Triangle that is allegedly three times the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The crystal material generates electromagnetic fields, paranormal forces, or bursts of energy that have been the cause of missing planes and ship. It is said to be built by the highly advanced civilization, Atlantis.
