“ | Furious, sentient magic. United by a singular purpose: The destruction of life. A natural defense response, considering life has given way to Ragnarök. A wight is created when a group of three wisps converge into one whole, angry creature. If we come across three wisps as they are converging, it is quite possible to disrupt the process. No need to add how stongly I recommend doing so, but every little nudge helps. | ” |
–Description of a Wight in the Codex |
Wights are magical creatures that are the result of the convergence of three Wisps.
It is first encountered by Atreus during The Runaway chapter.
Mythology
Wights (Old English: wiht) are undead mythical and sentient beings. Though the word wight was used to describe a living being, it has come to be used in various fictional fantasy works such as George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire and its HBO series Game of Thrones, and J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Ever since Wights have been used in the 1974 inclusion of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), they became a form of undead that recurred in various Fantasy games and mods.
In Norse religion, a "wight" (Old Norse: vættr) is any supernatural being. Not only does it refer to spirits in nature, but it also extends to jotnar, and the Aesir and Vanir gods. For example, the well-known landvættir are akin to fairies who look after natural features, and were venerated by the Norse for their blessings.
Description
Wights are dangerous and rageful creatures that exist whenever three wisps would merge with each other. However, the convergence can be prevented/disrupted whenever Kratos throws the Leviathan Axe at the Wisps. Whenever a Wight is killed it will split into Wisps, allowing Kratos and Atreus to finish them off.
