Foothills

The Foothills is one of the main Regions found in Midgard in God of War. It is one of the major regions you can explore in the game, and part of your main Journey. The Foothills stands just before base of The Mountain, the highest peak in the realm of Midgard, and allows access to the Vanaheim Tower at the Shores of Nine. It can be explored shortly after starting your adventure after arriving at the Lake of Nine, and includes hilly forested wilderness moving onto snowy landscapes before the mountain itself.

Collectibles

The Foothills holds the location to some collectibles as seen below.

Summary
1 Valkyrie 1 Mystic Gateway 1 Shop
2 Odin's Ravens 2 Legendary Chests 1 Nornir Chest

Nornir Chest Location

There is one Locked Rune Chest in the Foothills. This Nornir Chest is located not far from Sindri's shop at the base of the Foothills, just up the path on the right. The Rune Seals here are on spinning mechanisms that you can hit with your axe to match the symbols on the chest. Match the one above the chest to the “E” rune, head back down and hit the other mechanism to match the “D” rune. Head up right to where the poison chest is and look the other way to spot a Scorn Pole blocking the last mechanism, which you can freeze then hit the panel to match the backwards “B” rune. Return to find another Horn of Blood Mead.

Legendary Chest Locations

There are 2 Legendary Chests located in the Foothills. Once you arrive in the snowy ruins before the mountain where you fight an Ogre, look to the left side for a pile of rubble next to a red urn you can blow up to clear the debris. To the left of the coffin are two Scorn Poles and another urn you can blast across the gap - but both of poles are equally blocking the Legendary Chest here. Freeze the one closest to you to spot an urn behind the other, and blow it up to get rid of one of the poles. This allows you to freeze the remaining one and open the chest to get the Charge of the White Bear, a Light Runic Attack.

Legendary Chest 2

This Legendary Chest can only be obtained once you have the tools to interact with the Winds of Hel and clear out the Hel Bramble. Head up the path from Sindri's Shop up the wall along the path lined with Scorn Poles. To the right of the path leading up is a stone tomb that has been sealed. If you look up to the left you can spot some of Hel Bramble blocking a receptacle, but it has no wind. Head back down to the path to the area with some coffins to find the Winds of Hel trapped behind some Hel Bramble and cut it away, then carry it to the stone tomb to unlock it, letting you open a Legendary Chest that contains the Blast of Hephaestus - a Light Runic Attack.

Odin's Raven 1

There are 2 of Odin's Ravens you can find in the Foothills. Up on the snowy path to the Mountain Base, If you look to the left you can see Sindri's Skymover lift - the one that's overgrown with vines. Look above on the rocks and you can spot a glowing green raven hopping about looking at the lift. It may take some practice aiming above it, but you can hit it from here by throwing your axe way up into the air.

Odin's Raven 2

This raven can only be found behind the Hidden Chamber of Odin. Once you have the magic chisel, head up the main path towards the mountain and keep going straight into the cave with the chamber. As you approach the arena where the Valkarie is, before you jump over the chasm, turn around 180 degrees so you are facing the elevator. Look up and the raven will be perched on a stone cross beem.

Valkyrie Battle - Geirdiful

This Valkyrie employs a varied amount of attacks taking some cues from both Kara and Gunnr, but puts her own spin on things by rapidly darting around to changeup attacks. She has a great many unblockable attacks you'll need to watch out for, which she can quickly pull out after a couple normal wing swipes or sending wing tips your way - watch out for her quick dash into a wing jab and dodge right to make sure you get out of the way. She may also hold out her scythe and prepare an unblockable force wave - if you see it coming get ready to dodge to the side. She'll also utilize Kara's magical circle projectiles - both the blockable angled flurry of attacks, and the unblockable straight shot. Since she does this often, it can be hard to predict which one she'll send out, so always be strafing while blocking so you have a chance to sidestep the unblockable hit if you don't dodge in time.

Her most fearsome abilities come from the air with two different attack methods. If you see he rise up with her arms above preparing and unblockable strike - quickly have Atreus fire an arrow off to stun her out of it, otherwise she'll unleash a giant damaging smoke cloud that can't be avoided, and you'll be at her mercy as he fires projectiles from the shadows or lunges at you without warning. She also has an unblockable grab, if you see her take to the air and start spinning in a loop, get ready to dodge to the side, then capitalize on her as he misses and grinds to a halt. Since she likes to move back and forth a lot, it can be hard to get her to stay still for attacks. Have Atreus keep peppering her with Shock Arrows but always leave one open to shut down her blinding attack. Stunning Runic Summons can also slow her down long enough for you to get a good string of combos in.

This is a very reactive fight, so don't be afraid to take it slow and keep up the arrow shots until she comes in close, and then unleash hell until she retreats. Talismans that activate Realm Shift are also extremely useful in this situation.
