Casual is the easiest of all the difficulties in the Gears of War series. Its symbol usually consists of a Bronze Gear with one star, although it changes between games. Enemies are less accurate and have much less health (50% or less) compared to other difficulties such as Hardcore, and players can kill enemies far quicker than on the Normal, Hardcore or Insane difficulty levels. The health between Allied units and players are far more balanced as well.
In Gears of War 2, enemies have the same amount of health on all four difficulties, but the player's weapons do twice as much damage on Casual compared to Hardcore or Insane, allowing enemies to be killed much more quickly. From Gears of War 2 onwards players will not instantly die when in single-player but get downed, and from Gears of War 3 onwards you are able to revive yourself after being downed like in Multiplayer, being very diffficult for the enemies to kill you unless they do an instant kill attack such as using the Lancer Chainsaw. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is the only exception to these rules, as being a remaster of the original it plays with the same mechanics.
Note how being Casual the lowest difficulty it gives the least amount of rewards and achievements out of all of them, and everything that can be obtained by playing Casual can be earned too by playing on any of the higher difficulties. Overall, Casual can be considered a difficulty for new or unexperienced players to practice and get used to the game's mechanics before jumping into higher difficulties.
