Alice Hiromi

Alice Hiromi (尋海 アリス, Hiromi Arisu) is the curious photographer that became the adopted mother of Makai Dragon Loop in the events of Dragon Blood. She is both the female protagonist and the true main antagonist of Dragon Blood.

Personality

Alice Hiromi is a complex and tragic figure shaped by a traumatic childhood and driven by a singular, all-consuming vision. Orphaned at a young age and subjected to severe bullying in a desolate, industrial environment, Alice developed a deep appreciation for fleeting moments of beauty amidst the surrounding filth. This stark contrast between beauty and ugliness fueled her feelings of profound pain and loneliness.

Her life took a dramatic turn when she encountered the dragon egg, Loop (ループ, Rūpu). Upon touching it, she experienced a powerful vision of a world consumed by fire and subsequently reborn into an untainted, breathtaking landscape. This vision resonated deeply within her, convincing her that she was destined to witness this new world. However, her connection to the egg was abruptly severed when Makai Priests confiscated it.

Fueled by the desire to realize her vision, Alice embarked on a lifelong quest to retrieve the egg. As an adult, her search led her into the Makai world and she infiltrated Bakura's bar, Lupo, for answers. Recognizing that Zero and his allies were likely to cross paths with the egg, she strategically infiltrated their circle. Posing as an overly curious photographer who inadvertently stumbled into the world of Horrors, she manipulated Zero into protecting her, patiently waiting for the opportunity to be reunited with Loop.

Once Zero acquired the egg, Alice seized her chance and stole it. Unexpectedly, the egg hatched, and Alice named the dragon Loop, becoming its devoted protector. Even after Loop matured into a powerful dragon with the help of Edel, the Dragon Knight's belief that he held sway over his offspring proved false; Loop's loyalty remained solely with Alice.

When Zero finally confronted Alice, her manipulative nature and the extent of her obsession were revealed. She was willing to sacrifice humanity to bring about her envisioned world, a revelation that painted her as a dangerous psychopath. However, Alice is not a purely villainous character. Her past traumas and the early abuse she endured instilled in her a belief that the current world was unworthy of salvation. Yet, her genuine emotional attachment to Rei and her underlying kindness hinted at a capacity for good.

In the climactic events of Dragon Blood, as Alice bonded with Loop and stood on the verge of unleashing its destructive power to reshape the world, a profound realization struck her. She didn't desire a beautiful world devoid of Rei. Tragically, she found herself unable to control Loop, leading to a final confrontation with Zero. In her last moments, as Loop fell, Alice's true vision of beauty crystallized: it was the image of Rei. Her story serves as a poignant exploration of how trauma can warp one's perception of the world and the complex interplay between destructive obsession and the enduring power of human connection.

History

Early Days

Alice lived a troubled childhood ever since she stayed in an orphanage due to the death of her parents. She values beautiful things and has contempt towards things that stained it. Unfortunately, it appeared that for the same reasons, she was treated like an outcast and became a constant target of bullying as a result. One of the bullies who mistreated her goes so far as to deliberately stomp a nearby flower and rally his friends to throw mud on her to express his resentments to her. To make matters worse, nobody even bothered to defend the child.

However it all changed when one day, she discovered the surviving remains of Nova’s nest, with the Dragon Egg still resting there, undisturbed for centuries. When Alice touched the egg, she had a vision of a world purified by fire and reborn beautiful once again. From then on, she became the egg’s minder, always watching over it and tending to it until it was rediscovered by the Makai Order. Makai Priests came for the egg and Alice tried to fight them, but she was only a little girl and didn’t have the power to fight off the adults; the priest got the dragon egg and had it locked away in a tomb for safe keeping. Undeterred, Alice vows to reunite with the egg as soon as she left the orphanage.

Seeking Loop

As a young woman, Alice became a photographer and private investigator. In her search for the dragon egg, she discovered several forgotten covens and managed to obtain a compass and a tome regarding the makai world.
