Pipp Petals

Princess Philomena "Pipp" Petals[2] (also referred to as Princess Petals and Ruby Petals in French and Italian) is a Pegasus pony and one of the main characters of the fifth generation of My Little Pony. She and her older sister, Zipp Storm, are the princesses of Zephyr Heights. She is also the daughter of Queen Haven. She represents the element of confidence.

Personality

Pipp is confident, stylish and glamorous. She is a talented pop star who treats the world as a stage and loves performing, singing and engaging with her fans on social media on her mobile phone. Her performances mean a lot to her and she wants to lift others up with her songs.

Pipp is very close with her mother, Queen Haven and tells her everything. But after Pipp moves out of the palace to live at Maretime Bay with her sister, Zipp Storm and their friends, her relationship with her mother became more distant even if they try to keep their family traditions. After Queen Haven had started to have a romantic relationship with Alphabittle, Pipp, along with Zipp, became a little uneasy with that, more than her sister, being able to come up as rude to Alphabittle for seeing him as an "intruder" to their family dynamics.

In comparison to the relationship she has with her mother, Queen Haven, Pipp's relationship with her sister, Zipp is more strained due to their conflicted personalities and how they disagree on several things, like whether it's okay to lie to other pegasi about the Royal Family's inability to fly. But despite this, the two sisters are still very close to one another and have an absolute trust with each other.

Pipp is slightly spoiled and complacent in keeping secrets from the public, like the fact that before magic had returned, the royal family were not actually capable of flying and were only pretending. She does not always think about consequences or the bigger picture, such as when she livestreamed Sunny and Izzy despite the fear it could cause. But when the time comes, Pipp is able to do what is right.

Pipp is a great admirer of everything that is pretty and elegant, she also possesses a taste for more sinister things, a side that perfectly balances the one she shows to everypony else. One example is her love for scary and gloomy things, like ghosts. Her love for ghosts is so big, she cannot resist coming up with haunting stories, regarding abandoned places like the now closed Canterlogic factory. Zipp even mentioned that Pipp was able to convince their mother, Haven that an entire wing of the castle was being haunted by royal ghosts. After it was revealed that the factory was not haunted, she got really disappointed. This side was also seen when Pipp was shown to admire Opaline's taste, regarding her castle's decor.

Pipp is portrayed as being a very active pony, a reflection of her very busy social life as a pop star. Because of that, she hates being sick. Whenever she starts showing symptoms of being sick, she tries to pretend she is fine for as long as she can. When she gets bedridden, Pipp becomes a very difficult patient in the way she cannot stop still, is a little demanding and is also very difficult to entertain. But after seeing how her friends had tried their best to make her feel better, Pipp starts to really try to rest and get better.

Appearance

Pipp is a light pink-coated pegasus mare with lighter-colored fetlocks. She has leaf-green eyes with short lashes, violet eyebrows, golden hooves, and a wavy violet mane and tail, with her mane being swooped back to her right side. Pipp is noticeably chubbier and shorter than the other ponies, as she is the smallest out of the Mane 6. Her cutie mark consists of a purple music note with pale pink bulbs, and a yellow crown motif featured on the interior of the music note. As per her pony type, Pipp sports a pair of fluffy wings with pale pink feathers.

While Pipp does not wear any clothing, she does wore a golden laurel-like headdress to signify her status as as princess. It features an emerald-and-wheat clip and her mane sticks out the side of it.

In Tell Your Tale and Make Your Mark, Pipp's fetlocks no longer appear in her coat. In addition, her headpiece looked simpler in Tell Your Tale.

My Little Pony: A New Generation

MeetQueen (142)

Pipp's first appearance is in a news report where she thanks her fans Pippsqueaks and hypes up her new song which will debut at the Royal Bash. She later flies down with her mother, Queen Haven, and her sister, Zipp Storm, when Sunny and Izzy are brought before the queen. Pipp is scrolling and tapping on her phone during the exchange until she decides to livestream and broadcast to Zephyr Heights that an Earth pony and Unicorn are now in the city. Haven confiscates her phone to dissuade the new worries of the citizens and returns it to her. She flies back up once Sunny and Izzy are sent to the dungeons.

Dungeunn (5)

We see another broadcast with Pipp-this time a perfume commercial-before we pan down to the captured ponies. While Zipp is talking to Izzy and Sunny, Pipp makes a royal entrance (red carpet, fanfare, and guards) to create content featuring the prisoners. She scolds Zipp for going against their mother's wishes. When asked about the lack of flying in the city, Pipp explains that only royals can fly. Her phone vibrates and she leaves to attend dress rehearsal and warm up her voice.

Glowinplan (99)

Before her performance, it is revealed that Pipp told Haven about Zipp's visitation.

Warrant (37)

Pipp performs Glowin' Up for the attendees, suspended by wires which are manipulated to make it appear as if she's truly flying. Her performance goes well until Izzy and Sunny's interference cause the spotlights to be cast on Hitch just before the wires pull her wildly around the air stage. Her screams alert the attendees who cast their attention on her just before she is fully suspended, upside-down, from the ceiling in full display. She is booed and belittled as the attendees take photographs of her hanging. She sees Zipp leaving while this all happens.

Warrant (130)

In an alley in Zephyr Heights, Pipp angrily storms over to the four ponies and demands why the crystal was so important they had to ruin her performance. She explains to Zipp she feels betrayed by her leaving and learns that the royals are wanted under arrest and her mother has already been captured. Pipp begrudgingly shows the group the way out of the city after Zipp explains that the quest is important and will reinstate their good images.

Prancing (18)

In the daisy fields, Pipp laments over how she is a criminal due to this quest and begins arguing with Zipp over the validity of the quest as well as Zipp's intentions. Now a part of the group, Pipp feels more comfortable. She is informed by Izzy that her luminescence is aquamarine (her sixth favorite color!) at the fire. She is impressed by Izzy's "unicycling" and excited to get a makeover.

Saight (85)

She acts as part of the collective until Sunny is competing against Alphabittle to win the Unicorn crystal. After Sunny fails twice, she gets Sunny to feel the rhythm of the song and urges her to win the round and the crystal.

Failure (182)

After escaping the angry Unicorns in the Crystal Tea Room, she and Zipp are excited to see their mother has escaped prison. She looks questioningly at her confidence that they can just "spin the story" to gain the citizen's favor again. She excitedly unfurls her wings while Sunny and Izzy attempt to reunite the crystals, and is disappointed to see it fail.

Fightsprout (205)

She later returns to Sunny in Maretime Bay, insisting that she didn't want to be apart from her new friends. She assists Sunny and Izzy in the lighthouse and attempts to put the crystals together to reinstate magic. After Sprout rams into the lighthouse, a platform underneath her gives out and she screams as she falls, only to be caught in place by the rope on the platform reaching its end. She leaves the house in time to vocally warn Alphabittle of the approach of Sprout's mech.

Transformagic (57)

Once the lighthouse collapsed and everyone recovered, Pipp was amongst her friends to listen to Sunny's speech about friendship. She and the group watched in amazement at Sunny's transformation and the magic spreading. When magic is restored, she flies around excitedly with Zipp as the sisters look at Sunny's new appearance with the others. She takes a picture of Zipp with Unicorns and Earth ponies. She does the final "hooves to hearts" cheer with her sister and new friends.

My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale

Pipp lives in the Crystal Brighthouse alongside her sister and friends.

Season 2

In Icy Prints, Pipp greets Zipp who is flying through Maretime Bay. Later, along with the Mane 6, she mentioned her confidence to help protect Maretime Bay.

In Heavy is the Mane that Wears the Fruit Crown, Pipp and the Mane 6 dress up for the Maretime Bay festival of Carnival, with Pipp being designated the Carnival Queen. Pipp's Carnival crown arrived but is too big for her, however with Izzy and Misty's help, Pipp can successfully wear her crown. At the carnival, one of the traditions of Carnival involves festival attendees to shower the Carnival Queen with fruit as a sign of wishing good luck for the rest of the year. As a result, Pipp's fruit crown gets even larger and heavier, causing her to collapse under its weight. After her friends' encouragement and friendship magic, Pipp can finally wear the crown again.

In Cake Dragon, Pipp and the Mane 6 celebrate Sparky's birthday. When the cake dragon attacks Maretime Bay, Pipp and Zipp try catching it with a big net, but the dragon escapes.

In Jazz Hearts Rocky, Pipp senses that Jazz has a crush on Rocky and decides to help her. Pipp proposes Jazz a dramatic approach, suggesting Jazz sings Rocky a song.

Chapter 1

In the Make Your Mark special, Pipp takes part in preparations for Maretime Bay Day by writing a new anthem for the holiday. When Zipp believes something is wrong with magic, Pipp initially believes she is worrying over nothing. When Zipp is proven right, Pipp and her friends work to fix things by easing the tensions between the three pony races. During the festival, the debut of Pipp's new song is interrupted by Earth pony protest, causing magic to go haywire. After the crisis is resolved, Pipp invites the repentant Posey to sing the new song with her.

Chapter 2

In Izzy Does It, Pipp tries to help Izzy with her creative block, only to develop one herself. Izzy helps her by remixing one of her old songs.

In Growing Pains, Pipp notices a tree glowing multiple colors, a consequence of Hitch insisting that Earth ponies hold in their newfound magic. She is also present for Twilight Sparkle's warning, and her magic combines with her friends to create a tree to stop a giant glimmerberry.

In Portrait of a Princess, Pipp is very excited about Royal Portrait Day. Zipp convinces her to help her find an ocean lily, with Pipp only learning later on that she was just using it as an excuse to ditch Portrait Day. After the two get trapped in a cave, they fall to arguing but manage to reconcile. Pipp enlists the aid of the Pippsqueaks to escape, and she and Zipp make it back to Zephyr Heights in time for the portrait painting.

In Ali-Conned, Pipp is dismayed to find that her popularity is dropping. After seeing how popular Hitch's videos of Sparky are, she asks to look after the baby dragon in hopes of replicating what makes him so popular. While the attempt fails, Pipp ends up regaining some of her popularity after Sparky posts a video compilation of her babysitting mishaps.

In The Cutie Mark Mix-Up, Pipp, along with Izzy and Zipp, struggle to keep a stampede of frightened critters out of the Brighthouse.

In The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over, Pipp attends Izzy's Bridlewood-themed sleepover and meets Misty. When Izzy gets upset over Misty leaving, Pipp, Sunny, and Zipp cheer her up by turning their sleeping area into a replica of Bridlewood.

In Hoof Done It?, Pipp finds Sunny's missing lantern, but, noticing how much Zipp is enjoying exercising her detective skills, keeps it hidden for a little while longer. She ultimately tells Zipp this after she accuses Misty of stealing it.

In Have You Seen This Dragon?, Pipp tries to help Hitch find the missing Sparky, but her efforts accidentally sabotage the others. After Sunny convinces them to combine their efforts, Pipp sings a lullaby she wrote for Sparky, allowing them to find the baby dragon when he responds.

Chapter 3

In the Winter Wishday special, Pipp is first seen rehearsing with Zipp for their performance in the Zephyr Heights Wishentine Royal Carousel Concert. Alongside her friends, Pipp travels across Equestria, learning about the traditions of the Earth pony holiday of Wishday and the unicorn holiday of Wishiehoof, before she and Zipp take part in the Concert. At the end of the special, she and her friends witness the Wishing Star pass over the Brighthouse.

Chapter 4

In the Bridlewoodstock special, Pipp is inspired by the Bridlewood "Lumi-Bloom" to create a music festival. When Izzy mentions creatures known as Troggles that appear during the phenomenon, Pipp dismisses it as a myth. She and Izzy manage to recruit Pegasus singer Ruby Jubilee as the headliner. As the festival gets underway, Pipp learns that the other acts also believe themselves to be the headliners. Just as things seem to have been straightened out, the festival is attacked by the Troggles, who steal ponies' voices. After the Troggles are repelled, Pipp apologizes to everypony, declaring the festival over. However, she is convinced otherwise by the unicorns, who make it clear that they had fun.

In Top Remodel, Pipp enjoys exploring the empty Canterlogic factory, thrilled by the idea that it might be haunted. When she learns that it is actually infested with pegamice, she and Hitch work together to encourage the mice to leave.

In The Jinxie Games, Pipp panics when Queen Haven fails to arrive for brunch, believing she has been kidnapped. She soon learns that Haven has gotten romantically involved with Alphabittle.

In Sunny Side Up, Pipp encourages Sunny and Hitch to film a smoothie-making show, which does not go according to plan.

In The Manesquerade Ball, Pipp attends the ball with her friends and performs Sunny's "unity dance".

In A Little Horse, Pipp falls ill just before a social media collaboration and struggles with staying in bed and resting. With her friends' help, she recovers enough to perform the collaboration from the Brighthouse.

In Missing the Mark, Pipp and her friends discover Sparky once again missing. Misty leads them to Opaline's castle, where Opaline captures them and reveals that Misty is working for her. After Misty has a change of heart and frees them, Pipp and the others lend their cutie mark magic to Sunny, allowing her to overcome Opaline.

Chapter 5

In Cutie Blossom Bash, Pipp helps Misty get ready for the eponymous bash. Along with Zipp, she later gifts the shy unicorn a sapling to plant in the same garden where she and Zipp planted trees after their Cutie Blossom Bash as fillies, and after the Mane 6 sing It All Takes Time, the tree grows into a new Together Tree.

In Family Trees Pt. 1, she accompanies the Mane 6 to Bridlewood in search of an answer to Misty's visions. She also takes part in a "mega-pega mindfulness day," whereby she challenges herself to avoid using her phone all day, which proves quite challenging when the Breezie Night Market opens unexpectedly. In Family Trees Pt. 2, she helps the group find Misty after the latter had got lost. When they visit the Dragon Lands, Pipp continues to forage for natural beauty products and leaves a trail back to the portal. Back in Bridlewood, she shows Misty the photos she, Zipp, Queen Haven, and Alphabittle took earlier, causing Misty to remember that Alphabittle is her dad. At the Crystal Tearoom, she witnesses the father-daughter reunion and stays for a cup of tea, until her mom hears about their adventure into the Dragon Lands and chases her and Zipp out the door.

In Father of the Bridlewood, she and Hitch follow Misty and Alphabittle as the latter 2 trot through town, though they soon decide to give them some privacy. Later on, back at the Brighthouse, Pipp is seen helping move Misty's possessions inside.

In Mane Smelody, Pipp discovers a weed that makes an unbelievably shiny hoof polish, though it stinks. She attempts to turn it into a scent free hoof polish, though she only becomes used to the smell in the process. Throughout the episode, she becomes increasingly suspicious when Jazz starts awkwardly avoiding her, such as throwing customers' phones away after being shown the Mane Smelody Cliptrot Challenge. Jazz eventually plucks up the courage to tell Pipp the truth about the smell, and Pipp is devastated at the news but takes it quite well, acknowledging that it is good to have a friend to trust and be honest with.

In Nightmare on Mane Street, Pipp dresses up as a scary witch, citing that her mom never let her go full spooky back home. She also renovates the Crystal Brighthouse into the 'Crystal Frighthouse' and sells tickets to enter, though she ends up becoming too focused on unsuccessfully attempting to scare Misty (who doesn't get surprised easily), becoming mildly embarrassed when Zipp later succeeds at this feat. She is also present when Sparky activates the map to the Isle of Scaly.

Chapter 6

In The Isle of Scaly, Pipp is first seen loudly playing music, much to the annoyance of Zipp, who is flying the Mare Stream to the Isle of Scaly. After being discovered by the dragons, Pipp stays at the Mare Stream with Izzy and Misty and fruitlessly attempts to find cell service. After the dragons offer to fly them back to Maretime Bay, she, along with Zipp, ride on the back of Fountain, despite being able to fly independently.

In Roots of All Evil Pt. 1, the dragons land back in Maretime Bay with them to find that the townsponies' Cutie Marks are being stolen, Pipp is among the group who goes to check on the Unity Crystals and work to solve the mystery of how Opaline is stealing the cutie marks of everypony in Equestria. Pipp and Zipp then travel to Zephyr Heights to warn the pegasi and other residents. In Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, Pipp and Zipp sing Magic in Us in a high tempo, electronic bass in order to distract Opaline and trap her, Lava and Jade in a large tarp. Their plan almost works, until they turn around and Opaline breaks out, taking both of their Cutie Marks. Back at the Together Tree with Misty, Pipp pieces together that the ponies in the mural Zipp shows are happy to be powering the tree. They then start a group phone call with the rest of the Mane 6 to share their findings. Pipp, Zipp, Misty, and Queen Haven lead the ponies of Zephyr Heights in singing Magic in Us in support of Sunny. By the second verse of the song, Pipp and her family find out they can still fly through the unity magic. Pipp shortly after regains her Cutie Mark along with every other pony. After Opaline's defeat, Pipp is summoned to the new Together Tree by Spike, where the Mane 6 enjoy a brief celebration before the dragons depart.

In Secrets of Starlight, Pipp is easily excited about being made extra sparkly by the snow. When the ponies join the Auroricorns in Starshine Time, Pipp delights in all the activities, and, when sculpting with snow, builds an eighth note with a flag resembling a wing. When the Mane 6 contemplate returning to Equestria, Pipp agrees with her older sister on how strange the Auroricorns were acting. When the group steals the Nova Charm from Allura and Twitch, Pipp lulls Twitch to sleep with a lullaby, leaving the charm unguarded. She is then entranced by the snow leopard, but is freed when Sunny hits her with a snowball. In the Mane 6's speech to Starlight Ridge, she points out that the Auroricorns are the most special thing about the place, and remarks on confidence when they point out that Violet Frost should lead Starlight Ridge.

Trivia

  • She, along with Sunny Starscout and Zipp Storm, are the only characters to appear in every episode of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark.
  • Trademarks for Pipp Petals were filed on February 25th, 2021: One for toys,[3] another for media.[4]
  • According to the official My Little Pony site, her hobby is social media and singing.[5]
  • Pipp is not only a singer, but a dancer and an influencer.[6]
  • Pipp's fans are called Pippsqueaks.
  • Of the languages that keep the main characters names largely the same, Pipp is the only one to have a different name in two of them (French and Italian), likely due to sounding like a sexual slang term in French.
  • Before her design was finalized, Pipp had maroon eyes. Some merchandise still depicts her with reddish eyes instead of green - mostly in 2D art, but there is a 3D render with the unfixed eye color as well.
  • Pipp always has a microphone or mobile phone within' hoof's reach.
  • In an alternative unused scene, Pipp had a more sensitive and hostile attitude when she orders the guards to capture her sister and friends for stealing the crystal and ruining her show.
  • Despite being the younger sister, the actresses who voice her are older than Zipp's actresses.
  • Her favorite smoothie flavor is Strawberry Ripple as revealed in Pippsqueaks Forever.
  • She calls her phone "Bestie". Shown in Portrait of a Princess and A Little Horse.
  • In Bridlewoodstock, Pipp is briefly shown wearing reading glasses when planning the eponymous music festival.
  • A running gag in Generation 5 is Pipp always having her looks either altered unappealingly or otherwise ruined (sometimes magically), such as by getting her hooves muddy/dirty. She is usually quite dramatic about such incidents.
  • Pipp is the only known pegasus to have a different wing shape. While most pegasi have long thin wings resembling falcons, Pipp has short, broad wings which resemble those of accipiters.
  • Pipp is the youngest of the main characters.
