This is a summary of Generation 3 of My Little Pony. For a more in-depth look, check out the page on the My Little Wiki for Generation 3.
Generation 3 (shorthand: G3) was the third incarnation of the My Little Pony toyline. It began in 2003 and ended in 2009, however, though some G3-style ponies were released in 2010.
Toys
There are over 340 different characters to collect. The toyline was less character-focused than Generation 3.5 and beyond, and as such there is a much larger variety of ponies to pick from. Near the end of the toyline, there were many more re-releases as the generation shifted into "Core 7", which is when Hasbro chose seven characters to continously re-release in the latter years of the generation.
Media
G3 had three movies, about four half-hour specials (some of these specials were made up of 10-minute segments), a slew of short films, and a recorded live musical. All of the animated media was distributed either packaged with a pony or as a direct-to-video release. There were also many illustrated books, comics, and a magazine released in some territories.
