Bruce King

King

Bruce King was Minister of Resources in the Cabinet of Governor-General Whitney Hawkins from 1856 to February 1858. During his tenure as Minister of Resources, King stole more than N.A. £500,000, and accepted bribes for another N.A. £1,000,000. During the 1858 Grand Council elections the Liberal Party released details of King's crimes shortly before election day in February 1858, costing the Conservative Party votes and contributing to the Liberals' electoral victory. Sobel does not indicate whether King was imprisoned for his corruption.

Sobel's sources for the political career of Bruce King are Milton O'Casey's The Hawkins Administration (New York, 1953) and Leland Turner's Three Bags Full: The King Conspiracy (New York, 1970).
