Elf

Elves ｢エルフ, Erufu^?｣ are a rare humanoid species who have a vast natural lifespan. However, their inability to present their emotions is slowly driving them to their extinction.

Origin and History

Around a millennium prior to the story, the Demon King ordered the massacre of elves during his reign, with casualties including Frieren's village.

Biology

Appearance

Elves are generally humanoid in appearance and are almost indistinguishable from humans, with the exception of their pointed ears. Due to their long lifespans, elven bodies age much slower compared to other species. Elves have souls.^[1]

Personality

Elves tend to have a warped sense of time due to the length of their lives, to the point where months passing can seem like just a day to them in the grand scale of things. Frieren has noted that elves tend to lack romantic feelings and reproductive instincts. They also have trouble expressing emotion and are very prone to boredom, and they lack any sense of urgency outside of life-threatening events due to their immortality. As a result, some elves tend to find one goal to pursue to stave off boredom.

Lifestyle and Traditions

Elves appeared to live together in villages. However, not much of elven society is left and the surviving members of the species might not encounter others of their kind, even for centuries. Since the interest in socializing is rather low among elves, most often, individuals of the race are living a solitary lifestyle and only join groups for specific reasons.

Some elves are pious, such as Kraft, who values the precepts of the Goddess of Creation.

Natural Abilities

• Longevity: Elves are extremely long lived with nearly infinite lifespans.^[2] Some elves are known to have lived for thousands of years without signs of aging or frailty.
• Natural magic proficiency: Elves appear to have a natural affinity for magic. Because of their long lives, they are also able to develop spells and mana much more naturally than most humans. Known elf mages do not appear to use a separate magic system from humans, unlike Demons. They are capable of being taught spells from humans and interchangeably teach theirs to human students as well.

Trivia

• There are currently five named elves in the story: Frieren, Kraft, Serie, Milliarde, and Minus.
