The Omniverse

A galaxy is a container of worlds that abide by its own set of rules. Galaxies unknown leave opportunity for new rules.
— Fortnite

The Omniverse is the result of The Zero Point giving birth to infinite Realities after it sprang into being.[1] This includes the Marvel and DC respective Multiverses as well as many other franchises.

Overview

The Omniverse refers to the collection of countless and infinite worlds created by The Zero Point. These interconnected yet distinct universes, referred to as Realities, each follow their own unique rules and are not intended to interact.[2]

Realities can be grouped within structures known as Galaxies,[3][4][5] also referred to as Multiverses in other media. Galaxies act as containers for Realities that share a foundational set of rules.[6] In some cases, Realities may not belong to any Galaxy, such as Reality Zero, which was floating in isolation in the void during its second and third iterations.[7]

Dimensions, Realms, and Diverging Timelines

In certain Realities, additional divisions exist, such as dimensions or realms.[8] This is the case with Reality: 783 with a dimension known as the Spirit Realm. These remain integral parts of a single Reality rather than being separate Realities. However, some locations considered realms, such as The Sideways, are unique Realities in their own right.

Alternate timelines are another phenomenon within the Omniverse. These occur when two universes once identical diverge due to a specific event, forming a new Reality. One example is the divergence between Reality: 616 and Reality 617,[9] caused by timeline interference.

Another significant divergence occurred with Reality: UN-0-C4OG, which split from Reality Zero.[10][11][12][13]

Diverging timelines have also led to the appearance of new locations during different events across multiple seasons.[14][15][16][17]

This concept was further explored in Fortnite: Save the World, where the Long Road Home and Timeless Questlines depicted Dennis Jr., a time traveler from a possible future, returning with the help of Ned to warn Homebase. Dr. Vinderman elaborated that timelines, worlds, and Realities are synonymous.[18][19][20]

Travel Between Realities

Inter-dimensional travel between Realities is possible through various means, including The Zero Point, Rifts, and the Portal Device. Travel may also occur by physically moving through the void between Realities, as demonstrated by The Army of the Last Reality,[21] Kado Thorne,[22][23] Triarch Aurora, and The Ice King.

Risks

Interactions between Realities and time travel present enormous risks for the integrity of a Reality, a Galaxy, or even the entire Omniverse:

  • Depending on the case, time travel can alter a pre-existing timeline, changing past events, or create a new timeline, thus forming a new Reality. However, excessive time travel and alterations to the past can severely damage a timeline. In such cases, time becomes unstable, and the affected Reality is doomed to collapse. These corrupted timelines can even spread to adjacent Realities within the same Multiverse, potentially leading to the collapse of that entire Multiverse.[20] According to Dr. Vinderman, it is necessary to eliminate these corrupted Realities. This scenario occurred in the main timeline of Save the World.
  • Interactions between Realities can significantly alter their development, often resulting in major catastrophes, as noted by The Foundation. In the worst cases, Realities may collide with one another. This has happened during the Zero Crisis Finale[24][25] as well as during Chapter 2: Season 8.[26]

Trivia

  • The interpretation that The Foundation's claim "Each its own universe... Its own Multiverse." in Batman/Fortnite: Foundation state that each Reality has its own Multiverse during Batman/Fortnite: Foundation was disproved several times.
    • In the very same comic book this statement was made, The Batman Who Laughs stated that the World Forge forged Realities.[28] In DC Comics it's explained that the World Forge actually forged each Earths of DC Multiverse and DC Dark Multiverse. DC Multiverse's Prime Earth was also revealed to be Fortnite's Reality: NF-1935.
    • Fortnite's Reality: 616 was later revealed to be Marvel's Earth-616 belonging itself to the Marvel Multiverse.
      • It must be noted that for both DC and Marvel, Earths designates Realities. Since Marvel, DC and Fortnite share the same definition of what is a Reality, a Multiverse can't be inside a Reality in Fortnite.
    • In Fortnite: Save the World Timeless Questlines, Dr. Vinderman Books to terminate Realities explain that Realities and Timelines are the same, and that a corrupted Reality may infect all adjacent Realities of a same Multiverse, which could lead to the end of that same Multiverse. Confirming that a Multiverse is what contain Realities and not the other way around.
    • The Foundation likely meant that each Reality may belong to a Multiverse.
  • Unlike other media, groups of Realities are not referred to as Multiverses but as Galaxies.
    • This aligns with the fact that it's strongly implied by Sunbird and Rift Warden Stellan that the stars visible in the sky of Reality Zero are actually Realities.
    • We must not confuse the Fortnite Galaxies with the Galaxies of the real world, which are two completely different things. The Galaxies of the real world (and fictional worlds) refer to a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their solar systems, all held together by gravity. While Fortnite Galaxies refers to containers of Realities, in other words, Multiverses.
  • Despite Foundation and Batman believing Reality: NF-1935 was created by The Zero Point during Batman/Fortnite: Foundation, it's actually the World Forge which created this Reality along with all Realities inside of DC Multiverse and DC Dark Multiverse.
    • It's noted by The Batman Who Laughs that The World Forge metal is close enough to the Zero Point to protect him against memory loss in The Loop.[29]
  • On Artstation, High Voltage Software revealed a scrapped Star Wars galaxy that was meant to appear during The Big Bang.
    • Some days after players discovered this, it was deleted from their Artstation.
