Guljin

"I do not bring war. No, what I bring is a gift that has eluded all warriors in Heathmoor - Knight, Viking and Samurai alike. Peace. They all have a choice. They can bend to my will and accept my rule… or they can die."- Guljin[1]

Guljin is the leader of the Khatun Heroes and the Mongols, the ruler of a people once considered barbarians now an empire worthy of global attention. Having united her brethren, she now seeks to conquer and unite Heathmoor under her to force it under her notion of peace.

Overview

A powerful Mongol Khatun, Guljin has a twisted vision of peace, a peaceful Heathmoor united under her empire through force, free from petty wars.

Appearance

Guljin wears a metal skull-faced mask, alongside the Mongolian upturned-tip boots and fur hat.

Biography

when she was young, Mongols backed by the Blackstone Legion came to her village, bringing war, suffering, and destruction. Guljin was too young to fight then, but decided from then on that she would put an end to war.[2] With strength, tenacity and discipline, Guljin gathered the scattered clans of the Mongols across the steppes under one banner and emerged as their leader.[3]

She would become involved with Heathmoor when she was contacted by General Zhi, a cunning Wu Lin general, who offered an alliance with her, promising assistance and passage towards Heathmoor,[4] if she provided support for his own ambitions.[5]

Guljin defeats Astrea

As part of his plan, General Zhi offered Astrea, leader of the Order of Horkos, the legendary Starfall sword under the guise of forging an alliance. Astrea, ever suspicious, accepted the gift but brought her entire army as a precaution. But this was a trap: in a devastating ambush, Guljin's forces overwhelmed Astrea's larger army, attacking only those who resisted,[6] and the Order was annihilated.[7] Guljin fought and defeated Astrea in single combat,[8] but sparing her life.[9] After the battle, Guljin met with General Zhi to honor her side of their bargain.[5] Soon, the Khatun would march on all of Heathmoor to impose Guljin's vision of peace.[10]

Trivia

  • Guljin's name may be a reference to the Mogolian Epic of Jangar, the 16th century national epic of the Western Mongolian Kalmyk people. In this loose chain of heroic songs, a demonic creature known as a Manggus by the name of Guljin raises an army of 10,000 warriors and invade the mythical land of Bumba, which is ruled by the protagonist Jangar's father Ujung Aldar. Jangar would be hidden away while his parents would die during the invasion, coming back years later as an adult to retake his father's kingdom, killing Guljin by piercing him with a spear.
