Uffrith

Uffrith is a large port city in the south of the North, near the mouth of the river Whiteflow. It is a large walled city, possibly the second largest in the North after Carleon. The houses have old grey stone walls and slate roofs, and the streets are cobbled, with a large town square in the middle.

History

A number of years before the events in the trilogy, Rudd Threetrees was the chieftain of Uffrith. Bethod, an ambitious chieftain, started to unite clans under his rule. After six months of resistance, Bethod challenged Threetrees to a duel. Threetrees was beaten in single combat by his champion, Logen Ninefingers, but was allowed to live.

Later, during the events of Last Argument of Kings, the city is led by a headman called Brass, until Dogman and his rebel Northmen seize Uffrith with as little bloodshed as possible, in order to allow the Union to use it as a port.

After The Heroes, Uffrith becomes a protectorate of the Union along with the surrounding lands all the way to the Whitefall, one of the best lands in the North, with Dogman as its ruler. All this, against Calder's wishes, but because of Bayaz's order.

For years, Uffrith existed under peace with strong relations with Angland, until Scale, Black Calder and his son decide to take the lands back, burning the countryside and burning Uffrith, sending their people to flee.
