Spence was a person who lived before the Great War.
Background
Spence lived in Kansas with Elliot. Shortly before the Great War, Elliot took a trip to Appalachia in Paul's place so that he could go to a rock concert. This left Elliot stranded in Appalachia after the War, and he mulled over following the railroad tracks on foot out of Appalachia just to see Spence again.[1]
