Railroad agents are the active members of the Railroad residing and operating in the Commonwealth in Fallout 4.
Background
Since the organization's beginnings around the 2220s, in order to carry out their shadow war against the Institute and liberate synthkind, the Railroad has had to rely on scrounging resources while remaining under the radar, so any operatives deployed into the field have had to remain inconspicuous and blend in with surrounding areas and groups.
By 2287, as the Railroad has been trying to recover from recent setbacks such as a devastating series of raids on their safehouses, field operatives have spread out and can be found in various locations across the Commonwealth, including the new Railroad HQ beneath the Old North Church. Their main objectives are to gather information about the Institute's surface operations and help runaway Gen-3 synths escape while minimizing their exposure to the enemy's own agents, especially coursers.
Charateristics
Field operatives
Regular field operatives often dress in apparel one would find on the average wastelander. They mainly use low-tech weaponry like pipe guns and 10mm pistols.
Heavies
Within the Railroad, agents who specialize as combat enforcers capable of carrying out dangerous operations against serious opposition are known as "heavies." The high risk of their deployment typically translates to each "heavy" being significantly better equipped going into a fight compared to other agents in the organization, with an arsenal that includes high-powered Gauss rifles and uniquely crafted weaponry like the Deliverer. They typically sport weighted, armored coats for defense.
Known heavies employed by the Railroad include the late Tommy Whispers and the synth Glory. If the Sole Survivor sides with the Railroad in the War of the Commonwealth, they are also considered a "heavy." Numerous unnamed heavies also make an appearance during the Battle of Bunker Hill, defending the synths protected at Bunker Hill from the Institute and the Brotherhood of Steel.
