Hawaii was a state of the pre-War United States of America, mentioned multiple times in the Fallout series.
Background
Comprised of a series of islands remotely located in the Pacific Ocean, most approximate to the western shores of the North American continent, Hawaii was later admitted into the United States in the 19th century.[1]
As an official U.S. state, Hawaii's location made it strategically significant for the United States Armed Forces into the 20th and 21st centuries, with parts of its islands being converted into military bases to project U.S. power across the Pacific. Pearl Harbor, a United States Navy station, was one such base, and an attack on Pearl Harbor by Imperial Japanese forces in 1941 was what spurred the United States' entry into World War II.[2] In this conflict, as well as later ones such as the Sino-American War, Hawaii's military facilities served as sendoff points for troops deployed to foreign theaters.[3]
Following the nuclear apocalypse, some believed that the islands had been spared the worst of the nuclear devastation and desired to travel there by any means, including the use of crudely-repaired aircraft.[4]
