Mesplede

  TV-only character

Dr. Victor Mesplede was an activist with "Aid Without Allegiance" seeking to provide humanitarian aid to the victim-survivors of Eros.

Biography

Shortly after the Eros incident, Dr. Mesplede began a broadcast campaign pleading that the victims of Eros should not be ignored simply because they're Belters. He worked to raise support to aid the survivors on the station and an emergency mission to Eros.[1]

He was successful in raising the funds to rent the Marasmus at Pallas station and fit the ship with an advanced medical bay. The ship was crewed by Mesplede and other members of "Aid Without Allegiance" and departed for Eros.

The crew of Rocinante discovered the Marasmus tethered to Eros. While being questioned by Holden, Mesplede hid the fact that while they were docked, his crewmember, Dr. Kane, went inside the infected asteroid. Not knowing of the potential contagion, Holden agreed to let the ship depart Eros.

Just as the Marasmus was prepared to leave, Miller finds Kane's body infected with protomolecule and informed the Roci, who call out Mesplede for lying to them and jam his communications system. Mesplede attempted to go around Eros and circumvent the jamming so he can publicize his story about what he thinks is a Martian weapons experiment and ignores Holden's reasoning that if they publicize the truth they won't be able to contain the hazard, which ultimately forces Holden to fire on the Marasmus, killing all aboard.[2]
