Selene is the capital of the moon, situated on its southern pole.
History
Selene began as a simple colony on the southern pole of the Moon. However, it soon began to expand much more rapidly than the nations of Earth had suspected. Their push for independence led to the Great War sometime in the 22nd century.
During that war, Selene's advanced weapons devastated the Earth, but the Earth's size and resources allowed them to continue fighting until both sides were exhausted. There was no formal end to the war, and about 50 years later, Selene initiated a new project to recapture the Earth, leading to the events of the game.
Culture
The small nation of Selene is mostly independent. However, they lack many resources needed for expansion, leading to conflicts with the Empire over the large number of resources on the Earth.
The game manual mentions they practice a religion known as Zonnay, whose main temple is located in the capital city of Earth. There is a belief that Earth houses a "Holy Land" called Sodom (or "Gesetz" in the U.S. version), which is another cause for tension between the two nations.
Military
The Selene military is sometimes known as the "Earth Recapture Army" or "Selene Recapture Force" (SRF), and is relatively small but much more advanced than the Empire's. The weapons used in the First Moon War are unknown, but now their military seems to consist only of fighters and a command satellite codenamed Hyperion. The Einhänder program is their latest top-secret operation, developed to penetrate and cripple the Empire's forces.
