Itoi after acquiring all Eight Melodies, and with it the disappearance of Magicant. His battle theme is Versus Giegue.
Note that the following battle stats are redundant as it is a scripted battle. Giegue has infinite HP and 20 DEFENSE. Offensively, he has 15 OFFENSE, 20 FIGHT, and 69 SPEED. His resilience to Status Ailments is 14 WISDOM, 10 STRENGTH, and 23 FORCE.
Personality
- "Ninten! You alone, I may save you. Just you alone. Board our Mother Ship with me...""
- — Giegue
Giegue was a relatively innocent alien when he was raised by his adopted human parents George and Maria, growing closely attached to the latter. It appeared that he had a strong dislike of music and lullaby as according to a Magicant subject and Maria herself, Giegue would lash out upon hearing a lullaby and when being scolded like a naughty child. As Giegue matured he was made to choose between loyalty to his people, or his human parents as George stole their PSI technology and escaped, Giegue was ultimately forced to detach himself from Maria and grew colder, harboring resentment for George's home planet Earth. Many decades later in 1988 Giegue showcased skills of leadership as he carried out a mission to invade Earth, capturing humans, manipulating animals into turning violent, and sending his men to deal with any resistance. When Giegue confronted Maria's descendant Ninten and his allies, he expressed to the boy that he hated Earth and the humans on it deriding them as ugly and beneath him but pointed at Ninten as the sole exception.
Giegue revealed to Ninten that he was grateful to his great grandparents for raising him, went to great lengths to explain his reasonings to invade earth, and even offered to spare Ninten and take the boy aboard his mothership. However, Giegue does not take being rejected lightly as when his offer was rejected he choose to eliminate Ninten among the rest of humanity. In truth, despite Giegue hatred for Earth he carried feelings of guilt and regret regarding Maria, as upon hearing her lullaby he became distressed and lashed out in anger at Ninten demanding and going so far as to plead that it stop. Giegue choose to abandon the mission unable to deal with the memories before declaring he would return one day.
Story
- "Yes... that's right. That is the song. Oh! Giegue! I loved him... I loved him, as if he was my own child... He was always wagging his tail, just like a pup... EXCEPT for when I tried to SING him lullabies..."
- — Queen Mary
Giegue was an alien raised from infancy by a woman named Maria and her husband George, both of whom were abducted from Earth in the early 1900s. During this time, George studied the alien's PSI powers without their permission, culminating with his sudden return to Earth. The couple raised the infant Giegue as their own son, and he became especially close to Maria. However, due to George's betrayal, when he matured Giegue was tasked by his people to ensure that PSI could not be used against them by humans. Giegue did not want to betray those who raised him, particularly Maria, but was forced to attack Earth regardless to claim this knowledge back. In the end, he was forced to detach himself from Maria and begin preparations for the invasion of Earth.
Eighty years later, the invasion begins, and Giegue is confronted by the great-grandson of Maria and George, Ninten, and his companions. Giegue's influence is seen across the land as inanimate objects come to life, animals turn vicious and strange aliens begin to inhabit the earth. During the final confrontation, Giegue, still hurt by the loss of Maria, offers Ninten to come with him back to his home planet. Ninten declines this offer, and Giegue continues to attack. Ninten and his friends quickly prove no match for Giegue; they resort to singing the lullaby once shared between Maria and Giegue, and the comforting memories he had suppressed weaken Giegue. His guilt and love for Maria distress him and he is forced to surrender and retreat, but not before promising Ninten that he will return.
Strategy
- "(Ninten hears the voice of Queen Mary) Giegue cannot be defeated with force... You cannot defeat Giegue with a weapon of any kind. You must SING my lullaby, with all your feelings... SING my lullaby with all your heart."
- — In-Game Battle Check
Giegue can only be defeated with Sing after he finishes talking. His entire dialogue comes turn after turn, with at least 7 turns the player must survive before Sing can be used. Sing must then be done 11 times to defeat Giegue. After he talks, he immediately attacks all members with an unknown PK move that supersedes all pendants without fail. Attacking him or using any instant-kill moves such as the Super Bomb or PK Beam γ will have absolutely no impact. The player will also be completely denied the option to run or with 4th-D Slip. Giegue is not susceptible to any and all status effects. The only moves that can defend against Giegue are PSI Shield and the battle function Guard. Thus, it is logistically impossible to win this fight without a high-enough level.
Here is a list of each of Giegue's lines of dialogue per move:
- "Ninten! I am grateful to your family."
- "Your Great-Grandparents, George and Maria raised me."
- "But, George stole vital information from our planet that can be used to betray my people..."
- "And now, one of his descendants is obstructing our plans, and must be stopped!! Ninten! I am talking about you!"
- "Go home now! Perish with the rest of the ugly Earth People."
- "Foolish one, you cannot do a thing with your meager powers... Powers worthy of a lowly insect."
- "Ninten! You alone, I may save you. Just you alone. Board our Mother Ship with me..."
- "then, fall into a long sleep with your friends and the other ugly earth people."
The eighth line is when Sing can now work against Giegue.
Here is a list of each of Giegue's lines of dialogue per sing:
- "Stop singing." First melody, Second Melody cut off.
- "STOP singing!" First 2 melodies, Third Melody cut off.
- "STOP! Stop the song!" First 3 melodies.
- "STOP IT!! STOP THAT SONG!" First 4 melodies.
- "You puny little Earth bugs! Shut up, and STOP singing!!" First 4 melodies, Fifth Melody cut off.
- "The SONG..." First 4 melodies, Fifth Melody cut off.
- "STOP IT!!!" First 5 melodies, Sixth Melody cut off.
- "!!!!!" First 6 melodies.
- "Stop... Pleeease, stop!" First 6 melodies, Seventh Melody cut off.
- "!!!!!!!" First 7 melodies, Eighth Melody cut off.
- "........" All Eight Melodies.
After singing all 8 melodies to Giegue, the screen flashes to indicate he has been defeated.
"How could I be defeated by a song like that? I will... sometime... Ninten! We SHALL meet again!"
The party is revived and is healed back to full HP, then Giegue, along with his Mother Ship, leaves the World of Mother promising to return someday. The epilogue sequence begins, ending the game.
Trivia
- Giegue does not attack physically as DefenseUp does nothing against it, meaning that he is using an unknown PK move that bypasses the protective effects of Pendants, even the Sea Pendant. This makes Giegue the only enemy in the game that has his own exclusive PK move as opposed to EarthBound where the attack is unknown but is revealed what it is exactly by the visual effects on the screen.
- It takes at least 11 moves to defeat Giegue. 7 turns for him to finish talking, then 4 more turns (1 song per member, collectively 3 songs per turn to reach 11) to sing all eight melodies.
- B.B.'s Boss and Giegue are the only enemies in EarthBound Beginnings with in-battle dialogue.
- For some reason, Giegue does not appear in the Encyclopedia Mother.
