Kolhar

200x This article or section refers to elements from Expanded Dune

Zukunft am Scheideweg-1

Kolhar was a cold and largely barren planet located near the Rossak system, and on the nearby trade routes from Ginaz. Despite being uninhabited, it's environment was viable by humans.

Norma Cenva, after her torment and transformation, used Xerxes's ship to transport herself there. She then left a telepathic signal and summoned her mother Zufa Cenva there.

Having a minimal human population prior to the Butlerian Jihad, the planet was quickly transformed by Norma Cenva into the manufacturing center for Spacefolder space vessels.

Near the end of Josef Venport's conflict with Manford Torondo's Butlerians, eight decades after the end of the Jihad, Torondo manages to obtain a cache of forbidden atomics and uses them to turn Kolhar into a radioactive wasteland. Venport himself survives along with all the Navigators on the planet, but most of his employees and much of his industrial infrastructure are lost.

Behind the Scenes

Kolhar was not mentioned by Frank Herbert in his original Dune novels, but is featured in the novels by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It is reasonable to assume the planet went on to become a Junction planet used by the Spacing Guild, although there is no conclusive evidence of this. The atomic attack on Kolhar in The Navigators of Dune makes that unlikely.
